2 Applying to College: Key Components Applications Transcripts Test Scores Teacher Recommendations Counselor Recommendations/Secondary School Report Essay (if required) Senior Information Sheet/Resume

3 Step One: Apply! Submit your application online or via mail including the application fee You should be applying to 5-7 schools that suit you academically and socially Be mindful of each school’s application deadline which is posted on the undergraduate admissions website

4 Requesting a Transcript: Students must request an official transcript through Mrs. Bryan or Ms. Billey in the Counseling Office The transcript request form must be completed and you must attach: 1) A stamped, addressed envelope 2) $2.00 (per transcript 3) The counselor evaluation form (if required by college) 4) Senior Information Sheet/Resume if there is a counselor evaluation ● You must allow 2 weeks/10 school days for completion

6 Letters and Test Scores: If your college requires a teacher recommendation, request these at least 4 weeks before the deadline ACT & SAT Test Scores: -North Springs does not send your test scores to colleges -Scores must be sent to colleges directly from the testing institution: SAT-www.collegeboard.com ACT-www.actstudent.org

7 Counselor Evaluation/Secondary School Report: Some schools require the school counselor to complete a counselor evaluation or a secondary school report If so, you must submit this form and include a senior information sheet/resume when you request your transcripts (attach to log with paperclip) Senior information sheets are available in the counseling office or create your own resume Highlight your extracurricular involvements, community service, and leadership roles

8 Resources in College and Career Center: Location: E-107 You may visit during your lunch period GA College 411 (gacollege411.org) Scholarship Information College Visits—must sign up in the E-107 beforehand

9 College Visits: A calendar of college visits is posted on the bulletin board in the Commons You must sign up in the College and Career Center (E- 107)at least one day ahead to attend Please read the college admissions information on the college’s website ahead of time so you are informed and ask appropriate questions Remember that the college reps are also the ones reading your applications and making admissions decisions about you

10 HOPE Scholarship: GPA for HOPE will be determined by averaging all core grades (Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Foreign Language) (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, and F=0) All Honors and AP points are removed for this calculation HOPE eligibility is determined by the Georgia Student Finance Commission
