The 8 parts of speech By: Cody Frazier Noun, Verb, Pronoun, Adjective. Adverb, Preposition, conjunction, and Interjection.
Noun Definition- A noun is a person, place, thing, or an idea. Example sentence- There was cake at the birthday party
Pronoun Definition- A word that replaces a noun or other pronoun and is used as the subject of a sentence. Example sentence- I rode my bike with Marco.
Verb Definition- A word that can express actions, events, or states of being. Example sentence- Marco was beat up got a black eye, and didn’t even defend himself.
Adjective Definition- A word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun; it answers questions: which one? What kind? How many? Example sentence- Super man is very strong.
Adverb Definition- A word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. Example sentence- We quickly ran to the store to get some bread.
Preposition Definition-Connects nouns, and other phrases to other words in the sentence. Example sentence-After we got home we ate some of the bread.
Conjunction Definition- Connects words, phrases, and sentences in a sentence. Example sentence-I would like to have some but burgers aren’t good for you.
Interjection Definition-Is a word added to a sentence to convey emotion Example sentence-Wow! He’s a fast runner.
