Welcome to 4LT

4LT – Mrs Trevelyan Support Staff – Mrs Paderwala Mr Ainscough 4A Miss Tate 4HT We will often be joining the other year 4 classes for topic launches and trips. Year 4 Staff

Within the new curriculum there is a greater focus on place value and times tables. The children will be tested weekly on their tables with random questioning. Expectations for each year group have increased with the new curriculum, with topics which were once year 5, now being taught in year 4 and year 4 in year 3. School calculation policy: The whole school follows the same policy. How parents can help: Time, money, shape and distance. New Curriculum

Expectations - Children are expected to read daily at home. - Whilst listening to your child read it is beneficial to ask questions in relation to the text. Guided Reading – Group reading, follow up task, quiet reading, spelling task and practising their handwriting Class structure - Each child will read at least once a week and be questioned about what they have read. - Those children that need more support with reading will be listened to every day. Please complete the reading diary section of the homework diary every time you hear your child read. We will also complete this section too. Reading

The story uses different words for ‘said’. Draw a line to match each word with its meaning. One has been done for you. whispered spoke rudely explained complained protested gave a reason insulted spoke softly Why do you think the author has used those words? What affect does it have on the reader? Reading- Example

Expectations - Presentation and organisation - Clear objectives and success criteria for each lesson. Handwriting Spelling lists Writing

Grammar SPaG

Derek and Tim already had 5 shells in their shell collection. Then they went to the beach to collect even more. Derek found 2 limpet shells, 10 sand dollars, and 3 conch shells. Tim found 5 more shells than Derek did. How many shells do the pair have all together? Example: If the second number is n, the third number is n – 3 The second number is 75% of 8 The last number is an odd square number and so is the first number, which is smaller All the numbers add up to 19

Autumn – Road Trip USA Spring – Burps, Bottoms and Bile Summer – Traders and Raiders Each topic will include elements of Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and Computing. Year 4 Topics

PE –PE is on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has both a white PE kit and a games kit. Year 3 children also have PE on Thursday morning Swimming – Swimming takes place on a Thursday morning. The Year 4 children will go swimming on Thursday mornings. They will be split between 4A & 4 HT. Mr Ainscough’s class will be taken by Miss Griffiths and Mrs Anwar, whilst Miss Tate’s class will be taken by Mrs Teasdale and Mr Patel. Miss Tate’s class will leave at 8:50, and therefore the children will need to arrive in school at 8:40 each Thursday. No earrings on any of these days please. If girls are wearing tights, please make sure that they have a pair of socks for PE Important Days

Homework is set every Friday. Homework is collected and marked every Thursday. Homework needs to be completed to a high standard- using blue pen for written work and pencil. In addition children must learn their spellings, times tables and read every day (not a whole book!) Spellings will be tested on a Friday morning. The spellings the children get will be in line with those required within the National Curriculum. Times tables will be tested on Friday mornings. Homework

We have high expectations of childrens’ behaviour in school, inside and outside of the classroom. Children have up to 30 minutes Golden Time on a Friday as a reward if they behaved well all week. If your child has lost Golden Time this will be recorded in their homework diary – please ensure this is checked and signed weekly. Class rewards: house points, golden tickets and Table of the Week /Term /Year. Behaviour

Late pick ups after 3:10 will be sent to After School club and charged; children who are persistently late being picked up may be referred to social services. Absence and Punctuality
