Module 1 Unit 1 School life Welcome to the Unit

What are some differences between the lives of Chinese and British high school students? Look at the following pictures and tell the differences between schools in China and Britain.

Huge campus & low-rise buildings In the UK

Large campus but tall buildings In China

In the UK, there are usually very low-rise houses and huge campus while in China we usually have tall buildings and large campus to make sure that students have enough space to study and play in.

Lockers for every student In the UK

No lockers for students at school In China

In the UK, there are lockers for each student in the classroom while in China we often have desks in every classroom.

In the UK There are fewer students in a class --- no more than 30 in each class. Small class sizes

A full classroom of students In China

In the UK, there is usually a large classroom with a few students in it, who sit face to face. The students are encouraged to take part in all kinds of classroom activities ( 活动 ).

In China, we always have a full classroom with students sitting in several lines facing the blackboard and in most cases, students are not so eager to answer the teachers’ questions, especially senior high school students.

In the United Kingdom When classes are over in the afternoon, students take part in different outdoor activities, which makes their school life more interesting. They can enjoy nature, play ball games or do what else they like. They don’t have to hurry home to do a lot of homework. A lot of outdoor activities

In China Nowadays, some schools give chances to students and encourage them to do more outdoor activities. Students are taught to keep a good balance between their study and the activities. However, in some schools, students are given too much homework. They have no time to go out and relax after studying a whole day.
