Bullying is being mean to another person over and over again.

True  Bullying is repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological aggressive behavior by a person or group directed towards a less powerful person or group that is intended to cause harm, distress or fear.

It is only considered bullying if it is physical.

False  Bullying can also include name calling, mimicking, personal space, gender based, exclusion and cyberbullying.

Boys are more likely to engage in physical bullying than girls.

True  Studies have found that it is more common for boys to be involved in physical bullying. Girls on the other hand are more likely than boys to be involved in psychological bullying (such as ignoring someone or deliberately keeping someone out of a group.)

Bullying only occurs during school hours.

False  Some bullying happens in school; generally where there is limited or no adult supervision, including lunchtime, between class periods, and recess. However, it can also occur on the way to school, after school, at sporting events, on-line, etc.

Cyberbullying occurs when someone sends a mean text message, posts embarrassing pictures or threatens someone on a social media website.

True  CyberBullying is using the Internet, cell phones, video game systems, or other technology to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person. It is also defined as acts of aggression through computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices” (Jackson & Cohen, 2012).

Bullying is harmless.

False  1-10 students a year drop out of school because of repeated bullying.
