National History Day Debriefing Mrs. Herrera Highlights from the judges concerning Website Documentary Paper Exhibit Performance

General Information Judges are looking for surprising topic choices, different topics, and ones that stand out among the rest. Change this year- ALL categories are interviewed at State Level! Process papers- MLA or Turabian style 60% of your score comes from your ability to supply well rounded historical research

General Information Do NOT 'stack' your sources  Use only sources that you can cite in your bibliography.  The judges may ask 'which sources did you use.... for?'  Your score can drop from including extra sources that you did not gain an abundance of information from, or if the source(s) did not aid to your final thesis idea.

General Information Great websites for answers concerning the NHD  nhd.org  Facebook San Antonio Regional History Day Consider different points of view  Have your different sources come from different sides of your argument. A variety of sources makes your 'story' more rounded

General Information Great sources for your NHD project  Handbook of Texas online tshaonline.org/education/students/texas- day/home  Library of Congress (primary sources!!) loc.gov  Baylor University (oral interviews) baylor.edu/lib/texas/ .org &.gov

Website Create a 'Weebly' account  One account per student/group  Go to NHD.org then create a Weebly account A photo montage must have credits also, but the credits can be at the bottom of the page  Credit does not have to be directly below the montage If you have questions about your nhd.weebly account  address those concerns to the nhd.org help link

Documentary Respectfully interaction with the judges  That includes EVERYONE in your 'team' Only students in your 'team' may appear on or in your documentary  Including the voice dub over and your own video If you choose to include your own video, it needs to appear highly professional.

Paper Keep repeating throughout your paper, 'why your leadership of choice makes a great legacy' 20 % of your score comes from organization, spelling, and grammar. Include thesis statement at the beginning of the paper.

Exhibit Need to include at least one visual aid  Interactive  Diorama  Artifact Judge should be able to immediately identify how your topic relates to 'Leadership & Legacy'

Exhibit

Performance Do NOT give the judges a script of your lines  If you accidentally missed a line, but do not give the appearance that you did. Then the judges would not know.
