CLIMATE AND CLIMATE ZONES

WHAT IS CLIMATE?  An area’s long-term weather patterns  Measured by average temperature and precipitation  Weather is the daily temperature and precipitation  3 main types of climate zones  Polar Zone  Temperate Zone  Tropical Zone

POLAR ZONE  Located between 60 degrees and the poles (north and south)  Coldest average temperature of all climate zones  Winter average temperature: -17 degrees F  Summer average temperature: 41 degrees F

TEMPERATE ZONE Located between 23.5 degrees and 60 degrees North and South Mild seasonal changes Winter average Temperature: 32 degrees F Summer average Temperature: 82 degrees F

TROPICAL ZONE Located between the equator and 23.5 degrees North and South  Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn Receives the most direct sunlight Winter average temperature: 77 degrees F Summer average temperature: 82 degrees F
