Slow Dance- David L. Weatherford By Dija Forster

Slow Dance- David L. Weatherford Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round, or listened to rain slapping the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight, or gazed at the sun fading into the night? You better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music won't last. Do you run through each day on the fly, when you ask "How are you?", do you hear the reply? When the day is done, do you lie in your bed, with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music won't last. Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow, and in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch, let a friendship die, 'cause you never had time to call and say hi? When you run so fast to get somewhere, you miss half the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day, it's like an unopened gift thrown away. Life isn't a race, so take it slower, hear the music before your song is over.

Summary of the Poem The poem is about enjoying life while you have it and to not worry. Just go through the day enjoying it because one day, you will lose it! So the poem is telling the readers that we should not hate our life and we should just enjoy it because its worth it.

Technique #1 Rhythm: Uses comma in the line before so you would read the next line as if there was a comma. So basically your mind would read it in the rhythm of the last line. Example: When the day is done, do you lie in your bed, with the next hundred chores|running through your head? Effect: It makes the reader/audience read it slower so it makes the poem sound peaceful. Here is where it sounds as though there is a comma.

Technique #2 Effect: It makes the Poem sound more playful, peaceful and interesting. Rhyme Scheme: The last word of each stanza rhymes with its own stanza. Example: Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round, A or listened to rain slapping the ground? A Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight, B or gazed at the sun fading into the night? B You better slow down, don't dance so fast, C time is short, the music won't last. C

Technique #3 Punctuation: Using question marks to ask yourself or using it to really think about it. Example: Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round, or listened to rain slapping the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight, or gazed at the sun fading into the night? Effect: It makes the audience think about what they do and really think hard about what the poem is about.

MY FAVOURITE LINE 'cause you never had time to call and say hi?” “Ever lost touch, let a friendship die, 'cause you never had time to call and say hi?” I like this line because it mentions to take care about your friends as well.
