1 Say it! – Řekni to! Tell me! – Řekni mi! You say something.
You tell someone. John said that he was tired. John told me that he was tired. Anthony says you have a new job. Anthony tells me you have a new job. Tara said: "I love you." Tara told me that she loved me.

2 Say vs. Tell

3 SAY    Say is used to report someone's words:       She said "I'm thirsty."      She said that she was thirsty.    Say is followed by 'to' before the object:      Did she say that to you? We say :     hello, goodbye, please, thank you,     congratulations, Merry Christmas,     Happy New Year, Happy Birthday!

4 TELL    Tell is used to inform or instruct :      Could you tell me the way to the station please?      Tell the children to go to bed!  Tell is followed directly by the object :      *  Did she tell you her name?    Tell is used for narration :      * Tom is good at telling stories. We tell :     the time, our name, the truth, lies,     the difference between two things

5 Say and tell "Put the money in the slot", he said.
"Put the money in the slot", he told me. "You have to leave now", she said. "You have to leave now", she told me. We said, "Happy birthday!" "Where do you live?" he said. I told her that she was wrong. They told us that we could keep the objects. I said that she was wrong. I said to her that she was wrong. She told me to leave. They told us to keep the objects. He told a frightening story. I'll tell a joke I heard today. She told a lie. Next time, she will tell the truth. Can you tell the difference between a frog and a toad? I can't tell the time because it's too dark.

11 John Lennon - Watching the wheels
People say I'm crazy doing what I'm doing, Well they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin, When I say that I'm o.k. they look at me kind of strange, Surely your not happy now you no longer play the game, People say I'm lazy dreaming my life away, Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me, When I tell that I'm doing Fine watching shadows on the wall, Don't you miss the big time boy you're no longer on the ball? I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round, I really love to watch them roll, No longer riding on the merry-go-round, I just had to let it go, People asking questions lost in confusion, Well I tell them there's no problem, Only solutions, Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind, I tell them there's no hurry... I'm just sitting here doing time, I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round, I really love to watch them roll, No longer riding on the merry-go-round, I just had to let it go.
