Observations and Thoughts about the Jatinder (Jeet) Gupta May 5, 2006

Personal Appreciations

Personal Philosophy I believe in: Faculty governance through participation and collaboration; Administrative transparency; Creating an environment for faculty members to develop and excel in their careers; Working cooperatively with the faculty and other stakeholders to develop the College’s vision and strategies; Leadership through consensus and teamwork;

Personal Philosophy continued Creating partnerships with community and serving needs of the community; Intellectual contributions consistent with the mission of the College and maintenance of AACSB accreditation; Use of technology to solve business problems and to provide effective and efficient delivery of instruction.

Opportunities Emerging new business education model creates opportunities for renewal and growth. University’s Strategic Action Plan provides an opportunity to undertake the transformation of the College of Business and Economics toward a new, elevated level. Emerging growth in northern Idaho provides unique opportunities to participate in region’s economic development. Global developmental and educational needs create opportunities to supplement resources.

Some Observations Programs Explore the possibility of extending the integrative business curriculum to include the sophomore and senior years. Collaborate with other colleges to develop joint programs that serve the mission of the University. Create special undergraduate and graduate programs to serve “niche” markets, particularly in northern Idaho region.

Some Observations (continued) Explore creation of global business programs for students in Idaho and for students outside the USA. Explore creating joint programs with universities in other countries. Explore increasing the number of student internships and co-operative programs.

Some Observations (continued) Faculty Development Explore development of a Faculty Applied Internship Program in dynamic business environments. Explore development of an Executive-in- Residence Program to bring dynamic business leaders to campus. Explore ways to elevate faculty external recognition, publications, and scholarly work.

Some Observations (continued) Community Relations Explore ways to engage students in interdisciplinary academic programs that are knowledge-based and provide opportunities for students to become productive and engaged citizens. Expand community partnerships and secure funding to drive economic development initiatives in the region.
