Revision of work covered so far…. For each question you will have 1 – 3 minutes to discuss with a partner and write an individual response.

What are the 3 types of fitness? Physical Fitness Skill-related Fitness Mental Fitness

What are the physical aspects of fitness? Cardio-respiratory endurance Local muscular endurance Flexibility Speed Strength Power

Define Muscular Endurance. the ability for the muscles to work continuously without getting tired.

Why is muscular endurance important for badminton? For effective performance you need to be able to repeatedly: move forward to the net and to the back corners of the court reach up to play overhead shots and down to return smashes and drop shots return to base between shots.

What happens if your muscular endurance is poor? If your muscles become tired you will move more slowly. This will mean you arrive late to play the shuttle and your returns are not as effective. You will start to make more errors. Your level of performance will drop.

How did you test muscular endurance within the activity? Court Movement Scatter Gram Procedure: Play a competitive game against an opponent of similar ability. The game will last 12 minutes. A partner will record where on the court you moved to and whether or not you returned the shuttle successfully ( or X). 3 different colours of pen were used to record your performance at different stages of play. 0-4 mins = Red4-8 mins = Black 8-12 mins = Blue

Self Analysis of Court Movement This will be completed during and after your game. You will assess how you felt at different stages of your 12 minute game. Ticked a box indicating how you felt based on the statement given.

What did all this data gathered within the activity tell you? It told me I had poor local muscular endurance. As the game progressed I became more tired. I can not reach shots at corners towards end of 12 minutes but could at beginning. Failing to move effectively around the court. I make more errors

How did you test muscular endurance out with the activity? HARVARD STEP TEST 1. Step up on to a 45cm high gym bench once every two seconds for five minutes (150 steps) 2. Have someone to help you keep to the required pace 3. One minute after finishing the test take your pulse rate (bpm) for 30 seconds – Pulse 1 4. Two minutes after finishing the test take your pulse rate (bpm) for 30 seconds – Pulse 2 5. Three minutes after finishing the test take your pulse rate (bpm) for 30 seconds - Pulse 3 6. The three pulse rates are then used in a calculation to rate your level of fitness against national averages.

What did the results from the Harvard Step Test show? Your score when compared to national averages indicated you had a below average or poor score. Therefore we have to train to improve your muscular endurance – Circuit Training.

Homework If homework is amber or red from week 1- Why is muscular endurance important for badminton? If homework is amber or red from week 2 – Describe the 3 methods we used to gather information on your muscular endurance.
