1 Int 2 / Higher Grade Physical Education
Preparation of the Body Lesson 2

2 Lesson 2 Content Specific aspects of fitness required in specific positions Testing specific aspects of fitness Phases of Training Principals of Training Types of training Homework Two questions

3 Homework feedback Excellent of the standard expected
Homework codes used in PE Excellent of the standard expected Satisfactory, some key content / information missing Unsatisfactory, not of the level required - REDO

4 Specific aspects of fitness required in different positions
For effective performance you require a wide repertoire of physical, skill related and mental fitness Although all players require a combination of... cardio respiratory endurance, speed endurance, muscular endurance, power, speed, strength and flexibility... the specific fitness requirements of each player will vary dependent on their position and role.

5 Specific aspects of fitness required in different positions
Write one or two sentences explaining why a midfielder requires the aspects of fitness listed below. Cardio Respiratory Endurance - Speed Endurance - Agility - Level of Arousal-

6 Specific aspects of fitness required in different positions
Swap jotters with the person sitting next to you and mark their work using the answers below. Cardio Respiratory Endurance - to cope with the high intensity demands of continual movement for 90 minutes Speed Endurance - to continually make repeated sprints over varied distances Agility - to create gaps, move quickly into space and turn quickly with the ball to beat opponents Level of Arousal- to ensure you are appropriately motivated to perform to your best. To low a level any you wont perform (can’t be bothered). To high a level and you will become anxious and stressed leading to a poor performance.

7 Homework Task 2(a) Due – Thursday 6th Sept
Describe in detail the fitness requirements required to effectively perform your role. (4) Structure of Answer Name your position – Describe the responsibilities of this position /role Name and explain the 2 aspects of physical fitness required. Give performance related examples to help explain why each aspect is required. Name and explain the aspect of skill related fitness required. Give a performance related example to help explain why the aspect is required. Name and explain the aspect of mental fitness required. Give a performance related example to help explain why the aspect is required.

8 Testing Specific aspects of fitness
After naming the specific aspects of physical fitness required for your position it is important to asses your level of fitness. There are two methods of doing this Within the activity – General Data Out-with the activity – Specific Data / Specific Aspect Within Activity Assess Fitness Football Physical Specific Position Aspects of fitness Outwith Activity

9 Out with the activity – Specific Data
= Standardised Tests

10 Testing Specific aspects of fitness
Standardised fitness tests undertaken Multi stage fitness test 12 minute Cooper Run KHS derived Speed Endurance Test 10m-25m-50m Sprint Test

11 Benefits of standardised testing
Knowledge of activity doesn’t influence performance in test. Unlike actual game no variables that you can’t control. Specific to aspect of fitness. Raw quantitative data. Measure and compare scores with retest data. Are standardised results, compare with national averages. Raw scores can be used to set intensity in week 1+2 of training programme.

12 The story so Far General Data Collection TROS Within the game
Centre Midfielder Cardio Respiratory Endurance CRE Right Midfielder Speed Endurance Standardised Tests KHS Derived speed endurance test 10, 25, 50 sprint tests Standardised tests Multi Stage fitness test 12 Minute cooper Run

13 Homework Task 2(b) Due – Thursday 6th Sept
Describe in detail how you gathered specific data on your level of performance. (4) Key word / phrase bank Accurate and valid data Standardised tests Permanent Record National Averages Retest at later date

14 Creating a six week training programme
There are a number of factors which have to be considered when creating a training programme... Q. What are they??? (mentioned during lesson content slide) Phase of Training Principals of Training Types of Training

15 Phases of Training Training can be done at 3 times of the training year in football. Preparation period – Pre season Competition period – During the season Transition period – Off season What are the objectives of each phase and what types of training are most appropriate to each phase.

16 Principals of Training
Specificity Progressive overload Frequency Intensity Duration Reversibility

17 Types of training Continuous Training Fartlek Training
Circuit Training Weight Training Interval Training Flexibility Training

18 Homework Due – Thursday 6th Sept
Describe in detail the fitness requirements required to effectively perform your role. Describe in detail how you gathered specific data on your level of performance.
