September Update Welcome to 2 nd Grade! Over the course of the month we will be focusing on developing a routine that promotes continuous learning in the classroom. Your child will be stretching their mind and learning to adapt to new expectations inside and outside of the classroom. Please help your child adjust to these changes by talking with them about their day. Reflecting on experiences will help your child take advantage of each and every learning opportunity. I look forward to a great year!

September What is the Daily 5? The Daily 5 is a balanced literacy framework that promotes independence in learning. The main components of the Daily 5 are read to self, read to someone, word work, work on writing, and listen to reading. The goal of the Daily 5 is to foster good learning habits and develop lifelong skills of independent literacy. What is Lead 21? Lead 21 is a literacy program focused on developing phonics skills, fluency, and comprehension in each learner. Remember you can access readings on the Lead 21 website! Please go and explore. =) A Glimpse into the Common Core The common core state standards were crafted in order to provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to understand at each grade level. The standards are designed to support critical thinking skills that are relevant to the real world. Would you like to know more?
