Managing Diabetes in School The review in January 2013 highlighted the need for a formal school policy

Starting Point No formal school policy in place Written care plans in place Education for school staff undertaken but recorded in ad hoc manner Audit done in Jan 2013 confirmed issues with documentation

Actions taken Developed policy for Mx of DM in school Identified competencies required by school staff Method of recording education delivered and achievement of competencies

Implementation of plan Introduced plan with all children and young people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since January 2013 Meeting at school with staff and parents to teach competencies under parental and PDSN supervision Follow up meeting by PDSN with school staff to assess competencies prior to the staff undertaking the care. Further education offered as required
