Religious Education Mission of the Church Children will learn that Jesus gave his followers a mission to spread the Good News to others and through sending his Spirit to help them at Pentecost, this was the beginning of the Church. Belonging to the Church Children will learn what a community is and understand what it means to belong to the community of the church through the study of the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. World Religions This term children will be studying Islam. English In English this term, children will be reading The White Giraffe by Lauren St John. Throughout the term there will be a focus on autobiographical story writing along with discussions and explanations. Year 4 will continue to improve their writing at sentence level looking at expanded noun phrases by adding adjectives, nouns and prepositional phrases. This term will also be focusing on children’s improvement of their own writing to make it more effective and appealing to the specific audience. We will also be introducing new ways of using punctuation for example ellipses. Maths Throughout the summer term children will continue to look at place value and solving a range of different practical problems involving numbers to 10,000. We will also be continuing our work on decimals linking our knowledge of tenths and hundredths to finding simple percentages of numbers. Children will extend their knowledge of addition and subtraction to be able to solve two-step problems involving different measures. They will develop their understanding of time and the 24 hour clock, converting between analogue and digital. Science Living things and their habitats Children will recognise that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways and explore classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in their local and wider environment. We will also look at how environments can change which can sometimes pose dangers to living things. Evolution and Inheritance A great link with our Africa theme will see children identifying how plants and animals resemble their parents and how animals and plants are suited to, and adapt to, their environment in different ways. I.C.T Presenting Experiences This term children will look at the different ways we can use technology to present information to different audiences or for different purposes, including using videos, photographs and sound files to evaluate and develop their personal learning.
