2 This term, the formally assessed theme is the SACRAMENTAL THEME – Baptism - Confirmation We will be formally assessing AT1 – Celebration and Ritual Strand (ii). The children may be informally assessed against the other strands. Each year group will assess from an activity taken from a Learning Focus in Reveal. The activities are listed over the next few slides. When planning please leave this task out. Please teach all of ‘Explore’, ‘Reveal’ (but don’t use the task identified for the formal assessment) then, after ‘Remember’, please formally assess using the activities indicated. This enables the children to have had opportunity to work through the topic in full to inform their assessment.

4 Early Years: Early Years: Adapt the activity from Adult Directed Group Activity – Focus Week 1 (p.70) Provide pupils with a role play area with suitable props to re-enact the story of Matthew’s baptism. Take photographs and/or film to provide evidence of the formal assessment. (Level 1) Pupils will use some religious words and phrases to describe actions related to the Preparation of the altar and the gifts (Level 2) Can I recognise some religious actions and to use some religious words and phrases related to a Baptism e.g. Sign of the Cross, welcome, belonging, Baptism, godparents, sign, sacrament etc? (Level 1) Can I use some religious words and phrases to describe actions related to a Baptism e.g. anointing the baby with a special oil called ‘chrism’? (Level 2)

8 Year 2: Year 2: Adapt Learning Focus 3, page 72, Activity 2. Using Church’s Story 2 and clip pupils make a storyboard of the parts of the Baptism learnt about so far. Write a sentence under each picture to describe what the people are saying and doing (Level 2). Pupils sequence in pictures the parts of the baptism recognising some religious actions and using some religious words and phrases (Level 1). Using Church’s Story 2 and clip pupils sequence the parts of the Baptism. Describe what the people are saying and doing and give reasons for their actions (Level 3). 9 The children at Level 2 should use words and phrases to describe the actions and symbols related to baptism. To achieve Level 3, the pupil needs to use words and phrases giving reasons for the actions and symbols related to baptism. At Level 1 the children can recognise some of the signs and symbols and use words and phrases related to baptism. Can I recognise and use some of the words and phrases related to baptism? (Level 1) Can I describe what people are saying and doing during a baptism? (Level 2) Can I describe what people are saying and give reasons for what people are doing during the celebration of a baptism?
