Not Everything is a Compound!!!

First…Let ’ s Review We know about two categories of matter: Elements and Compounds (Pure substances)

Remember the Element: A substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. It is the smallest form of matter that has the characteristics of that substance. Composed of all the same type of atoms.

Remember the Compound: Two or more different elements that are chemically bonded together to form a completely new substance with different properties.

Elements and Compounds Elements and compounds are categorized as PURE SUBSTANCES.

So what is everything else??? MIXTURES!!!

Mixture: Two or more pure substances that are mixed together (sharing the same container), but they are NOT bonded together. Mixtures can be easily separated back into the original pure substances.

Challenge!!! Write three examples of mixtures. (Hint: Look at the definition and think about everyday stuff!!!)
