PERMITS SPECIAL LEARNERS PERMIT 16 YEARS OLD EXAMINATION PERMITS 17 - <21 YEARS OLD EXAMINATION PERMITS 21 YEARS OLD or older

SPECIAL LEARNERS PERMIT 16 YEARS OLD 1.Pass written test minimum 80% 2.Enroll in Behind-the-wheel Class 3.Pass vision test 20/50 4.Health question 5.Parent’s signature 6.6 Points of Identification

6 Points of Identification (birth date, address, photo ID, SS#) 1.Certified US Birth Certificate or Passport – 4 pts. ( need 1) 2.Student photo ID with school report card (address) – 2pts 3.Social security card – 1pt. 4.Written test card from school – 1pt.

TO OBTAIN A SPECIAL LEARNERS PERMIT (16) 1.Purchased by an NJ certified behind-the- wheel instructor 2.Only can operate a dual pedal control vehicle until validated. 3.Complete 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction Permit is then validated

Validation Official approval showing that you completed the necessary steps to obtain a driver permit or license.

DRIVING WITH A VALIDATED SPECIAL LEARNERS PERMIT Follow the following GDL regulations

o An Adult Supervising Driver who is at least 21 years old o Seating in the front seat o Possesses a valid NJ driver license, o Licensed for at least 3 years. Must be accompanied by:

No driving between 11:01pm and 5:00am.

GDL Driver Exemptions Proof of a need to drive during the prohibited hours for employment and/or religion For an exemption, the motorist must carry a legible certification to indicate this need from his/her employer or religious official on the official letterhead of the business, organization or religious institution, with the signature of the certifying official and his/her name, title, address and phone number

Passengers are limited to any parent, guardian or dependant and one additional passenger

The driver and all passengers are required to wear seatbelts.

No using hand free as well as hand held cell phones or any other electronic devices.

Must display red decals on the license plates ONE ON THE FRONT AND ONE ON THE BACK $4/PAIR

$100 FINE FOR VIOLATION OF GDL REGULATIONS

EXAMINATION PERMIT 17 YEARS OLD Can wait and not have to go to driving school. Save money for lessons but will not save on insurance fee. *RESTRICTIONS ARE THE SAME AS SPECIAL LEARNERS PERMIT

21 YEAR OLD EXAMINATION PERMIT  Passenger and hour restrictions do not apply.  Driver cannot use cell phones, hand held video games or any other hand held electronic device.  The driver and all passengers are required to wear seat belts *Practice driving with permit for 3 months before taking Road Test.

DRIVING WITH A PERMIT *If a student driver commits a traffic offense, responsibility will be with both student and instructor (supervising driver). Permit holders…………. may only drive in NJ
