It is SECURITY ENHANCED with more than 20 covert and overt features Has FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY All these prevent identity theft UNDER 21 = VERTICAL valid for 4 years OVER 21 = Horizontal valid for 4 years

4 ALTERING A DRIVERS LICENSE
Presenting an ALTERED Drivers License may result in the following: Loss of a motorist driving privilege A fine up to $ and/or up to six months imprisonment IF YOU OBTAIN A LICENSE ILLEGALLY may result in a fine up to $ $ and/or imprisonment for 30 – 90 days

5 STARTING THE PROCESS In NJ you must prove your age, identity, and legal presence in the US before you can get a permit. HOW DO YOU PROVE THIS ?

6 6 Points of ID Must have at least 1 PRIMARY document
Must have at least 1 SECONDARY document TOTAL for these DOCUMENTS Must be worth 6 points or more Must have PROOF of Address Must Have Social Security Number ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINAL OR CERTIFIED COPIES IN ENGLISH WITH PROPER SEALS FROM STATE OR MUNICIPAL SEATS

7 OPTIONS FOR OBTAINING A DRIVERS LICENSE
3 OPTIONS : A - B C OPTION A: The Early Bird Road age = at least 16 OPTION B: The Young Adult Road age = at least 17 OPTION C: The Adult Road age = at least 21

8 GDL MULTI STAGE DRIVER LICENSING SYSTEM
Gradually introduces driving privileges Extends practice driving time Requires MINIMUM age of 18 to receive an UNRESTRICTED Basic Drivers License ALL RESTRICTIONS MUST BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO FAILURE to do so may result in a fine of $ or possible suspension of driving privilege.

9 NJ GDL Law Permit At 16 (6 hrs. BTW) Or 17 (Hold Minimum 6 Months)
TALKING POINTS Enter the system at 16 with 6 hours of behind the wheel or at 17 without the behind the wheel training. License at minimal age of 17 after holding permit for 6 months. Hold provisional license for a minimum of 12 months before becoming eligible for basic non-restricted license. GDL holders need to go back to the MVC to change over the license. It will not automatically turn into a basic license. Restrictions: 11pm curfew, 1 passenger (unless accompanied by parent or guardian or if the passengers are the teen’s children) everyone in the vehicle must wear a seatbelt. GDL holders are not allowed to use any type of electronic devices (cell phones- either handheld or hands-free, ipods etc) Ask parents to refer to the GDL brochure in their toolkit and post on their refrigerator as a quick reference guide. 12 Provisional License Requirements
After 6 months of supervised practice you may take the “ROAD TEST”. If you pass, you get your Provisional License. Now you can drive UNSUPERVISED with the following restrictions: Driver may not use cell phones or any electronic devices.. Only one passenger is allowed in the vehicle. NO driving between the hours of 11:01p.m. and 5:00a.m. EVERYONE in the vehicle must wear a seat belt. **traffic offenses are the responsibility of both the student and supervising adult. **Violating the GDL or Provisional restrictions will result in $100 fine & /or suspension of driving privileges.

14 BASIC DRIVER’S LICENSE
Requirements: Must be at least 18 yrs. old Must have completed one year of unsupervised driving requirements Must go to M.V.C. to upgrade their Provisional license to a BASIC DRIVER’S LICENSE Must pay required fee ($24) **All information taken from “njmvc.gov”
