3 Prices Permit - $10 (6 months) Photo License - $24 (4 years)
G.D.L. - $6 (1 year) $35 License (10 years) Lost or Damaged $11 – REPORT TO POLICE!!

4 How to obtain a permit… 1. Must pass the written exam with a score of 80+ 2. Proof of age – Original copy of Birth Certificate 3. Vision test- 20/50 with/without glasses 4. Health questions (pg. 31) 5. $10 dollar fee 6. Social Security Card (does not prove age) 7. 6 points of Identification 8. Purchase decals

5 6 Points of Identification Requirements (pg 12-15)
1. At least ONE primary document. (4 points) 2. At least ONE secondary document. (3-2-1) You CANNOT use more than two 1 point documents Total documents must be worth 6 points or more Proof of address Social Security Number

6 16 Year Old Provisional Permit
Sold to driving school only. Must attend driving school for 6 hours of training. Must be on permit for 6 months (minimum). Must have red decal on EACH license plate. After 6 hours of driving school you get the permit.

7 Restrictions for 16 year old Provisional Permit
Accompanying adult must be a N.J. driver with 3 years experience that’s 21 years of age and sitting in the front seat. Can’t drive from 11:01p.m. until 5:00a.m. Can drive in NJ only. No hand-held or hands-free cell phones or any electronic devices. All passengers must wear seatbelts. 1 passenger only

8 17 year old Provisional Permit
Anyone who qualifies can purchase one, must meet the 7 steps to a permit to qualify. Must have decals on plates. Must be on the permit for 6 months.

9 Restrictions for 17 year old Provisional Permit
N.J. driver with 3 years experience that’s 21 with you. Can’t drive from 11:01p.m. until 5:00a.m. Can drive in NJ only. No wireless devices unless emergency. All passengers must wear seatbelts. 1 passenger only (besides the experienced driver)

10 21 year old Provisional Permit
You purchase the permit. ***Must be on permit for 3 months. Must have a N.J. driver with 3 years experience that’s 21 with you. N.J. only ***No time restrictions No wireless devices except in emergency. All passengers must wear seatbelts.

11 In order to use permit… It must be validated at any MVC Driver Testing Center

12 Changes 1. Address – 1 week to notify DMV
2. Name – 2 weeks to notify DMV 3. Move into NJ – 60 days to get an NJ license or before out-of-state license expires, whichever comes first

13 Road Test Before the road test, inspector will check:
6 points identification Permit License of driver with you Registration Insurance Inspection sticker Seatbelts Inspector can reach a break (No console unless parking brake is a handle) Decals on plates

14 Fail Road Test If an applicant fails the road test, he/she must wait at least two weeks before taking the test again. After several failures, the MVC may require an applicant to wait 6 months before retaking the road test.

15 Road Test Failures The following may cause failure of the road test:
Improper, expired, or no inspection sticker Lack of examiner access to foot or parking brake Defect or condition that causes an unsafe or unsuitable vehicle such as: Poor brakes Parking brake doesn’t work Unsafe tires Interior not reasonably clean condition Failed inspection Not equipped with radial or snow tires or chains Fast engine idle Missing seatbelts

16 Pass Road Test 1. Go to Motor Vehicle 2. Fill out the application 3. Road Test Card 4. Permit 5. 6 points of identification 6. $6 7. Have photo taken

17 Provisional (Probationary or G.D.L.) License
Obtained by passing the written exam and driven for at least 6 months on a Special Learners Permit Probationary license is valid for 1 year May drive unsupervised Decals on plates Restrictions – see notes Tickets for first 2 years 2 tickets (4 points) – D.I.S. or 3 month suspension

18 Basic Driver’s License
Must be 18 years old Must have completed one year of unsupervised driving with probationary driver license restrictions Must pay required fee

19 Altering a Driver’s License
May result in: suspension of license $1,000 fine and/or up to 6 months in prison

20 Getting a License Illegally
May result in: 6 months – 2 years suspension of license $200-$500 fine and/or days in jail

21 Violations of GDL System
Any violation of a restriction of the GDL system will result in a fine of $100 or a possible suspension of the driving privilege.

22 Review TEST MONDAY
