How will your speaking be graded on the EOG / EOY ? Every language teacher in CMS uses the same criteria. Here they are.

Task Completion Complete everything on the task. Go back and check what you jotted down. Add something! (Make sure that it goes along with the task)

Comprehensibility Does what you are saying make sense? Suggestion: Check that there’a a subject ( who) and a verb ( what) in each sentence. Did you use the RIGHT EXPRESSIONS?

Fluency Don’t talk toofast nor tooooooo sllllllllllloooooooowwwwwwwwww. NO looooooong pauses! It’s a normal conversation, that’s all! So talk normally !

Pronunciation Does your pronunciation keep the conversation moving forward? Or do you mispronounce a lot of words?

Vocabulary Did you use the right vocabulary words to say what you wanted? Suggestion: Use a mix of cognates and non-cognates (harder words). It shows how well you can write in Spanish.

Language Control Use the correct gender agreement for your adjectives. Ex.— La chica bonita Did you use Un/Una or el/la before nouns? Did you conjugate your verbs?

TIPS

- Once you get your prompt, you have 3 minutes to gather your thoughts - DO NOT write complete sentences down, only ideas and French key words to keep you going. Your notes WON’T be graded.

- Listen carefully to your partner to be able to evaluate their performance. - Read the prompt, jot down ideas for 3 minutes then turn to your partner and speak. - You can record yourself with your cell phone if you want to hear how you did !

Attacking the Prompt A. Attack the prompt B. Brainstorm possible answers C. Choose the order of your response

1. Attack the prompt Cross out words that you don’t need. The scenario could distract you or confuse you. Its purpose is to give you a background to give context to your prompt and give you ideas for using more vocabulary. Circle any word that asks you to do something. What you actually have to do. Draw an arrow from each circled word to what it specifically tells you to do. Now list those circled words at the bottom and rewrite what the word asks you to do. Now you have a new prompt.

2. Brainstorm possible answers Use a graphic organizer (one will be given to you) to organize your thoughts.

Example Prompt You’ve won a trip to a resort in Barcelona, Spain for you and your family. The resort hotel wants to know more about you and your family so they can plan a fun itinerary for you and provide meals you will like. Talk about yourself and 2 other members of your family. Tell each person’s age. Describe each family member. Tell at least 2 things each person likes to do during their free time.
