MICE Run Plan Sept/Oct 2009 m. apollonio – IC MACHINE PHYSICS USERs RUN NO SHIFT A B C D E

-Thanks to all who commented (special thanks to Linda who contributed the latest version and Chris for ISIS plan just posted) - In fact a change to the initial plan happened a week ago that split the RUN time in 2 blocks -US colleagues asked to lock down times (21-25 Sept) for detector calibrations. Can we do it? -Sorry if still something’s missing in the plan.

A PREPARATION B FIRST MEASUREMENTS CKOV ? MACHINE PHYSICS

HIGH INTENSITY study + Rad. Survey NB: GVA1  rate counter GVA1+TOF0(+CKOV)  tell BEAM COMPOSITION TOF0 (position sensitive)  help us steer the BEAM So, minimal request for this period is: DAQ + GVA1+TOF0(+CKOV) must be up and running MACHINE PHYSICS a- assume target “working point” has been found b- FIX one optics and scan in depth only (PROTONS or PIONS, to be decided). c- reproduce the configuration with the SAME optics in G4BL and do a rate analysis + correlation of BeamLossMonitors and GVA1. B FIRST MEASUREMENTS

C USER’s RUN (part 1) USERs RUN

C USER’s RUN (part 1) Optimise DK sol throughput: - Fix optics and check effects on GVA1 rate when varying DKsol Bz field Optimise US quadrupoles. Goal is increase the number of pions available. This may require some optimisation routine using GVA1 (rate monitor) and BeamMonitors (to check steering) and TOF0 to select pions. USERs RUN

PLAN: use optics from reference rescaled to new beamline configuration (magic table ELECTRON ready on ) PLAN: ditto (magic table PION ready on ) C USER’s RUN (part 1) USERs RUN

What do you want here? PIONS at 310 MeV/c on TOF0? Could you confirm that? P  = MeV/c sol gva1BM1 TOF0 TOF1 CKV BM diffuser  spectrum in DKsol C USER’s RUN (part 1) USERs RUN

VIP visit ? NB: the good thing with it is that we have plenty of time to CALIBRATE theTOF in view of the next period Holiday... not really

GOALS for CM: - clear understanding of BLosses and rates in the beamline - beamline composition - first tuning of the US beamline - set up of PI  MU beamline - TOF calibrated D Machine Physics Suggestions/plan? MACHINE PHYSICS

E USER’s RUN part 2 -TOFs are calibrated - Mark R. Emittance measurement (see Analysis meetings) -(e,P) matrix ready - run at different momenta / optics - measure emittance (see point 9) USERs RUN
