Introduction to Virtualization Lewis Talley – InSource Solutions

A Typical Wonderware Architecture

What is it? In computing, virtualization means to create a virtual version of a device or resource, such as a server, storage device, network or even an operating system where the hypervisor divides the resource into one or more execution environments.

Let’s Virtualize

Types of Hypervisors Type 1 Bare metal ESXi, HyperV, Xen Fully supported by WW Type 2 Shares resources with host O/S Workstation, player, virtual box, etc.. Not supported in production environments – great for testing

Type 1 Hypervisor – bare metal

Connecting and Configuring

Type 2 Hypervisor – shared resources Running on Windows 7 (my laptop)

Type 2 Hypervisor – shared resources

How can InSource help? Documentation and best practices for implementing in a virtual environment (KC & WDN) Recommendations on sizing and architecture Provide configured H/W Implementation and migration services Health check Troubleshoot and fix problems
