Biology 17.3 Major Biological Communities
Ecosystems, Communities, and Biomes
1. Of all the biomes on the planet, this one has the greatest biodiversity. A) temperate grasslands B) temperate deciduous forest C) tropical rain forest.
Studied in 3rd grade as part of the Science curriculum.
Biomes.
Biomes of the World. What is a biome? A BIOME is a large geographic area containing similar plants, animals, and climate.
Terrestrial Biomes. Terrestrial Biome Determining Factors Geography- biome’s location on earth, latitude and altitude Climate- precipitation and temperature.
The Biosphere. Ecology Ecologists study of interactions of organisms with their environment Levels of Interaction –Organism –Population –Community –Ecosystem.
Biomes and Climate.
BIOMES.
Biomes of the World. Weather vs. Climate Weather – the day-to-day condition of Earth’s atmosphere at a certain time and place. Climate – the average yearly.
Tropical Rain Forest Home to more species than all biomes combined! Soil is poor b/c organic matter is recycled so quickly High temperatures and precipitation.
KEY CONCEPT Biomes are land-based, global communities of organisms.
Terrestrial Biomes. 1.What is climate? 2. weather – the condition of atmosphere at a specific place and time 3. meteorologists tell us the weather on.
Ecosystems and Biomes. Ecosystems Areas formed by plants and animals that have adapted to the environment.
Biome PowerPoint Mr. Scott. Purpose You are going to practice your research skills by using the internet and creating an original PowerPoint presentation.
Biomes A biome is an area with similar climate, plants, and animals A biome is an area with similar climate, plants, and animals Climate: the temperature.
Biomes & Ecosystems. Terms that you need to know Ecosystem Community Population Climate Biotic Abiotic.
Ecosystems, Communities, and Biomes. Ecosystems Write the Main idea on page B6 Add a picture showing an ecosystem.
ECOSYSTEMS - 1. Climate Zones- areas of the Earth where certain climate conditions have existed over time (temperature & precipitation)
Biomes Tropical Rain Forest Deciduous Forest Grassland And Desert Tundra and Tiaga $100 $200 $300 $400 $500 $300 $200 $100 $500 $400 $300 $200 $100 $500.
15.3 Biomes KEY CONCEPT Biomes are land-based, global communities of organisms.
Biome An area with a distinct climate and specific types of plants and animals Examples: Tundra, Taiga, Grassland, Desert, Temperate Forest, Rain Forest,
Biomes.
Warm Up: Biomes K-W-L:Desert.
Instructions for using this template. Remember this is Jeopardy, so where I have written “Answer” this is the prompt the students will see, and where.
Climate November  Climate  Average weather conditions of an area over a long period of time  3 Climate Zones on Earth  Tropical  Temperate.
Daily Notes Put the following terms in order from smallest to largest:
BIOMES Do they affect where we live?
Biomes Read the lesson title aloud..
Biomes of the World.
VI. Ecosystems. Ecosystem – a group of plants and animals that depend on each other and their environment for survival. They can be very large or extremely.
Chapter 2.4 BIOMES. Target 1 BIOME I will identify the main factors that are used to determine a biome. a) Climate which is based on: Temperature Precipitation.
Think back to ecosystems….
See how many answers you got correct!
V. Types of Climates. A. Climate Regions Patterns of temperature, precipitation, and wind create world climate regions Climate Regions- Areas that share.
Ecosystem An ecosystem is a community of living organisms.
Biology Climate Unit 14, Notes #2 (chapter 35, lesson 2)
SWBAT define biome and give examples of what makes them unique.
Earth's Major Biomes!.
Tuesday May 15, 2011 Objective: You will know what a biome is and that Earth is made up of different biomes.

Biome Web Research Project Use this template to guide you in creating your own PowerPoint on one of the following biome choices, Choose one biome to research on the internet. This is a two day project. Tropical Rain Forest Savanna Taiga Tundra Desert Temperate Grassland Temperate deciduous forest Temperate evergreen forest

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 1: Title (what biome are you covering) Show a picture of your biome

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 2: Locate where the biome type you are covering is located. Find a map of world biomes that has your biosphere included.

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 3: What climate-temperature zone does your biosphere fall into: find a climate map and compare it with your biome map Is it warm year round, warm summers-cold winters, cold year round, cool summers-mild-winters, extreme temperature changes between seasons or little change between seasons.

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 4: Find how much precipitation falls in your biome area (how much rain the area sees in a year) Find out how much annual precipitation (rain) falls within the biome you chose. Is rain something that happens on a regular basis or is there a rainy season or a dry season that occurs in your biome on a regular yearly cycle.

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 5: What type of plant growth occurs in your biome? What types of plants are typical of the plant life in your biome? How have the plants in this biome adapted to the precipitation amounts (abundance or lack of rain) found in this biome?

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 6: What type of animal life is found within your biome? Give a list of at least 10 types of animal life forms that can be found within your biome as typical inhabitants.

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 7: What type of animal life is found within your biome? Give one example of an animal within your biome that has adapted to the amount of water available (lack or abundance of water available). Give one example of an animal that has adapted to the climate-temperature range of it’s environment within the biome. (fur to keep warm or burrowing underground to keep cool for examples).

Template: Biome Web Research Project Page 8: Summarize your biome Give one short paragraph summarizing your biome giving the most essential identifying details that define this biome Include a final image of your biome
