By sir John Cass Secondary School

Early School Life - Primary In the UK, children start nursery which is a mini version of school at the age of 3. Then it is a school year called reception at 4 years old. Then you start school at what people say year 1 to year 6. This is from ages 5 until age 11. From nursery to the end of primary school it is 8 years, so there are 8 classes in primary school. In primary school your class is around 30 students and are categorized in your years, for example: year 4.

Secondary School In secondary school, there is a large change as there are many classes in a year. For example, in Sir John Cass, there are 7 classes in a single year group. In a year of secondary school there are so many people students than the 30 in primary school, in Sir John Cass there are 210 students in a year (year 7,8,9,10,11). In total it is about 1000 students. At secondary school there are more lessons than at primary and each lesson is taught in more detail. The next stage of education from secondary school is college.

Sixth Form Students attend Sixth Form from the age of 16 to the age of 18. There they will study and perform their A level exams. Sixth Form is not compulsory though A levels are needed to get into most universities. In most Sixth forms school uniform is not required. Sixth Form is free.

University To go to university students must pay between £4000 and £9000. Anyone can go to university at any age though the average age of someone attending is 18 to 21. To get in students need at least two A levels and some universities require students to perform an admissions test before deciding whether to let them attend.

The school timetable 1. Our school timetable consists of 5 lessons. School normally starts in the morning at 8:40 a.m. Each student has their own individual timetable. 2. Over school has a week 1 and a week 2 in which we have different but similar lessons. 3. We normally have a registration which last unite 8:55 a.m. and this is when lesson 1 starts. Each period lasts for 1 hour. After lesson 2 we have a short break for 20 minutes. 4. At a.m. we have lesson 3 which is then followed by lesson 4. After lesson 4 we have lunch which lasts for 30 minutes. 5. At 13:45 – 13:50 p.m. we have registration which is then followed by lesson We finish school at 14:50 p.m.

School Uniform Uniforms are worn to identify what school a pupil may attend. It also establishes a formal and adequate impression of the school. This is a very common item within schools in the UK. It allows students to feel like they are a part of something.

After school clubs We have many after school clubs at Sir John Cass. Some examples of after school clubs are sports clubs, art clubs, chess clubs and many more. There are also twilight language classes which include languages like Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and more.
