Welcome to LBAP conference session

Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership Biodiversity targets Globally and nationally, fell short of reaching 2010 target to reduce the rate of biodiversity loss UN Convention on Biological Diversity held at Nagoya, Japan, Autumn 2010 agreed new Aichi targets In 2011, the UK National Ecosystem Assessment examined economic and social value of biodiversity

Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership Aichi Targets 20 targets set – 2 examples: Target 5 – Habitat loss: By 2020, the rate of loss of all natural habitats is at least halved Target 11 – Protected areas: By 2020, at least 17 % of terrestrial and inland water, are conserved and effectively managed, and integrated into the wider landscape

Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership LBAP Work  LBAP – original development in 2001  All Action Plans written by 2005  60 partner organisations involved  By 2010, many targets achieved and plans needed updating  2012 – 14: Revision of 41 plans achieved by lead partners and Ruth Moffatt

Process Priority habitats reviewed Removed achieved actions Aimed to get actions with targets, specific and measurable Identified key needs and opportunities with lead partners Used targets developed for Regional Spatial Strategy from detailed report Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership

LBAP Target headlines All figures in hectares unless stated otherwiseMaintainRestoreExpand Habitat WCS Arable Field Margins (ha) Coastal and Floodplain Grazing Marsh Eutrophic Standing Waters (sites) Fens Hedgerows (km) Lowland Calcareous Grassland Lowland Dry Acid Grassland Lowland Heathland 2005

Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership Examples of Objectives  To restore 27ha of degraded lowland calcareous grassland by 2026  To increase the breeding range of lapwing to its level.  To restore 142 degraded pond sites by 2026

Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership Next steps : Steering Group to approve revised plans Place revised plans on webpage to ensure accessible to all 10 more plans to review Implement action on the ground Find resources to enable monitoring of progress

Your input welcome  Several of the plans are on display today  Further information re projects can be added – note it for us  Work with lead partners to track actions  Identify any further actions or plans needed  Proof readers needed ! Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership

Thank you !  Thanks to all on the Core Steering group and to many partners for work on plan  A special thanks to Ruth Moffatt, volunteer, without whom the work would not have been achieved Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull Local Biodiversity Action Partnership
