Welcome to Year 2 12 th September 2014

What is the purpose of this meeting? To inform you of the routines your child will follow in Year 2 To share learning expectations both in school and at home To share information about Year 2 topics To answer any of your questions

Year 2 Topics Each term children will study one topic in depth over a variety of subjects Alongside the main topic smaller topics will also be taught. For example, ‘locations’ in Geography and ‘Florence Nightingale’ in History. Underground, Over ground Light up! Frozen!Growth Fire! Zoom into Kenya!

Morning Routine The children will continue to line up in the playground at 8.40am. If they arrive after 8.55 they will be marked as late in the register. Myself, Mrs Brown and Mrs Pennlington will be around in the mornings to take any messages or concerns. Please ring the school office in the morning if your child is going to be absent.

Positive Behaviour We promote positive behaviour, rather than focusing on negative behaviour. Gold Book (Mr Jones) Certificates Team points Rocket in the classroom

Learning Groups We have different learning groups for English and Maths. These groups are sometimes changed to encourage children to work and get along with new people.

Outdoor learning will run this term. In this lesson children learn to, Solve problems Persevere Get along with others Take the lead Please send in appropriate clothes and shoes on Fridays.

PE Please make sure your child has their PE Kit in school throughout the week, with PE clothes suitable for indoor and outdoor activities. Especially during the Autumn and Spring, PE can be inside or outdoors depending on the weather. Trainers are more suitable for outdoor PE. UNIFORM Cam Everlands uniform (named please!) No nail polish No bands!

Assessment and SATs Every child's progress is monitored each term to ensure that they are meeting their next steps. If we are worried that a child is falling behind we will arrange a meeting with you. Yes, we still ‘do SATs’ in Year 2. In Year 2 SATs are completed in a fun and stress-free way. English SATs are completed as a normal writing lesson where children are getting to ‘show off’ their writing skills. Any child that did not pass the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check during Year 1 will retake it in Term 5 of Year 2.

Home Learning Working with us to give your child the very best start in life. Numeracy passport Reading Homework

By the age of 7 children have decided if school ‘is for them.’ Reading, Phonics and Spelling Every child will be heard twice a week. Once in group reading, once 1:1 with the teacher. This is recorded in their Reading Message book that is sent home. Children are expected to read a little every day. Phonics and spelling are taught alongside each other. Children will receive learning activities based on phonics and spelling. Home Learning Home Learning is an activity that children should do with Mum, Dad or even Granny! It gives them a chance to share what they are learning and for you to ask questions.
