Presentation transcript:

The tiger (Panthera tigris), a member of the Felidae family, is the largest of the four "big cats" in the genus Panthera. [4] The tiger is native to much of eastern and southern Asia, and is an apex predator and an obligate carnivore. The larger tiger subspecies are comparable in size to the biggest extinct felids, [5][6] reaching up to 3.3 metres (11 ft) in total length, weighing up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds), and having canines up to 4 inches long, [7] Aside from their great bulk and power, their most recognisable feature is a pattern of dark vertical stripes that overlays near-white to reddish-orange fur, with lighter underparts. The most numerous tiger subspecies is the Bengal tiger, while the largest is the Siberian tiger.Felidaebig catsgenus Panthera [4]Asiaapex predatorobligate carnivore [5][6] [7]stripesBengal tigerSiberian tiger Tigers have a lifespan of 10–15 years in the wild, but can live longer than 20 years in captivity. [8] They are highly adaptable and range from the Siberian taiga to open grasslands and tropical mangrove swamps. [8]taigagrasslandsmangrove They are territorial and generally solitary animals, often requiring large contiguous areas of habitat that support their prey demands. This, coupled with the fact that they are indigenous to some of the more densely populated places on earth, has caused significant conflicts with humans. Three of the nine subspecies of modern tiger have gone extinct, and the remaining six are classified as endangered, some critically so. The primary direct causes are habitat destruction, fragmentation, and hunting.extinctendangered habitat destructionfragmentationhunting Historically, tigers have existed from Mesopotamia and the Caucasus throughout most of South and East Asia. Today, the range of the species is radically reduced. A web quest is an online tool for learning. It’s differentiated instruction, design down and higher level thinking all rolled into one.

Now that you know what WebQuests are all about, let’s explore some of the thousands of WebQuests that have already been created by other educators.

Fits curriculum Correct gradeReading level high Attractive pictures Clear home page Can be modified

Is the task clear and authentic? Is higher level thinking involved? Is there room for creativity? Will students be able to read the directions independently?

This WebQuest includes a variety of interesting activities. The reading level is too high for most students to read independently.

The evaluation is clear and could easily be adapted.

The student book that goes with the WebQuest is included. Yeah !!

Students can play recording and/or read. If the reading level is too high, a recording can be added.

How will WebQuests help to improve homework assignments. Parents and students are given clear instructions. Students can take the lead and parents can help when needed. Students can be creative while working at their own level. No more cut and paste of complicated material from web sites. Students can submit a product that they are able to present because they have done the research at grade level.
