Liner: Calcium Hydroxide DA122 Dental Materials

Calcium Hydroxide: Trade name: Consistency: Function (Uses): Cavitec, Dycal, life, preline Consistency: Thin and creamy, as it sets, it gets tacky Once it sets completely, it hardens Function (Uses): Direct pulp cap (see next slide) Indirect pulp cap Protective barrier under restorations, including composites

Pulp Capping-Procedure Stimulates formation of irregular secondary dentin. An important PROPERTY! Pulp cap: thick or double layer of calcium hydroxide liner Direct: cavity prep almost enters the pulp of the tooth Indirect: cavity prep nears the pulp chamber, but does not enter it

Armamentarium: 4 items needed: Small 1x1 paper pad Ball point tip instrument (Dycal instrument) Used to mix + apply 2x2 gauze square Supplied as 2 paste system: Base and catalyst Equal amounts

Mixing information: Ratio: Mix time: Work Time: Set Time: Clean up: Equal amounts of base and catalyst Mix time: 10 seconds Incorporate material into homogeneous color-no streaks, all 1 color Work Time: 30 seconds Set Time: 1 ½ -2 minutes Clean up: Wipe instrument with gauze, can be flicked off if it dries

Mixing information: Mix technique: Incorporate into homogenous color, using the ball tip applicator to mix DDS applies calcium hydroxide with the ball tip applicator (Dycal instrument) Applicator should be sterilized with procedural instruments Copyright 2012 Porter & Chester Institute, Inc.
