5  Very high in strength. Provide: ◦ Insulating protection ◦ Low solubility ◦ Prevention against decay (contain fluoride)

6  Beneficial feature of glass ionomer cements:  Fluoride-releasing base ◦ Protection against decay  Chemically bonds to enamel or dentin  Adheres to wet tooth structure

7  Cement-luting: ◦ 2 drops of liquid to 1 scoop of powder ◦ 2:1  Base-thicker consistency: ◦ 1+: 1 ◦ 1+ scoop powder: 1 drop liquid

8  Cement spatula  Treated 3x3 paper pad  Liquid bottle  Powder and scoop  Plastics filling instrument OR disposable syringe for application  Note: this product can be supplied in pre- measured capsule, mixed in amalgamator

11  Water, immediately  Ultrasonic cleaner with temp cement remover solution, if material is set

12  Before mixing product, tooth needs to be: ◦ Pumiced with non-fluoride paste ◦ Acid etch (10 – 30 seconds) ◦ Rinse with water (30 seconds) ◦ Air dry but do not dessicate; slight moisture needed to prevent later tooth sensitivity  Mix and place glass ionomer cement or base
