Aiming High Every day we are watching our Secret Student! Hard work, kindness and success are rewarded with a smiley face and a golden nugget. As a class we will be aiming for a special treat. Good to be Green Cards- extra good work, effort and behaviour rewarded by a privilege card, undesirable behaviour given a warning card,and if not improved a consequences card. Privilege card holders rewarded with an afternoon playtime on Friday. Star of the Week board- each week up to 5 children are chosen for trying extra hard with their work, friendships and relationships. All children have their own targets in their literacy and maths books. The children will continue to collect house points and could be sent to Mrs Wedlake for a Headteacher's Award.

Literacy: the next steps Reading with confidence and analysing what they have read. Weekly guided reading sessions in small groups and with a follow up activity. 1 to 1 reading support for those becoming independent readers (free- readers). Reading packet with Reading Record Book, Reading Activity Book, individual reading book and sometimes a guided reading book. Reading Activity Books with activities to stimulate deeper thinking and reflection about their own reading books. Continue to read a range of books that extend their reading skills at home and at school.

English: the next steps Write independently in a way that interests your reader. Use a range of skills suitable for that form of writing. Use correct and increasingly complex punctuation. Spell a range of words correctly. Daily spelling practice with a list of words that will be tested each Monday.

Maths: extending upwards Know common number bonds; within 20, tens within 100, common bonds within Understand place value within decimals, e.g. hundredths of a number Know times tables up to 12 x 12. Multiplication Olympics. Minute Maths. Telling the time to nearest minute, calculating periods of time. Money; making amounts, giving change, calculating the difference. Converting between different units of measure, e.g. 1000m = 1km. Introducing compact & column methods for addition and subtraction.

A Broader Curriculum Topic work that includes science, history, geography, art & design, design & technology and computing. RE and PHSE (personal, social and health education) taught weekly. PE with a specialist coach and swimming in the summer term. Music with Mr Bowen learning how to play a brass instrument.

What do they need? To bring their reading packet with them every day. An Art apron/ old shirt (named) to cover their clothing for messy activities. A pencil case with a only a pencil, sharpener, ruler, rubber, a few coloured crayons and, when they have their pen licence, a handwriting pen(Berol -dark blue) Offers of parental help for special activities, swimming and trips!!!! Homework Regular independent reading of a range of books. Guided Reading follow-up activity- time given in class for this. Weekly spelling test- spellings sent home on a sheet. Termly maths- ideas to practice skills on a regular basis- guidance, games, use the My Maths website and/ or learning times tables through different methods including the Multiplication Olympics sheets on class web-page.
