Problem?

 Why are we studying it?  Why do some people feel it is a problem?

 20 th century began with a population of under 2 billion  1999 world population reached 6 billion  7 billion by 2020

 China has the highest population at 1.2 B  India is second at 1 B  Canada has a population of about 33 million

 The statistical study of human populations  A Census gives countries important information about population  “total process of collecting, compiling, and publishing demographic, economic, and social data pertaining to a particular time, to all persons in a particular country”  Developed countries have more accurate statistics

 If Canada has a natural population increase of 0.6 %, using the Rule of Seventy, what is Canada’s “Doubling Time”?

 70/0.6= 117 years (does not include immigration)
