Selecting an Agriculture Pathway

Lesson 3 Objectives: Objective 1: The learner will describe the four steps in career selection. Objective 2: The learner will complete a self evaluation to determine their values, interests, personality and skills to aid in career selection. Objective 3: The learner will determine a course of action for career selection.

Objective 1: The learner will describe the four steps in career selection. Perform a Self assessment Determine you career Options (perform research on a career) Determine the best Match (we will do this by reporting on a career) Take Action (we will do this by aligning our long-term plan to our career choice!) The acronym is SOMA!!!!

Objective 2: The learner will discuss the four steps in performing a self assessment. Our real goal for today is to perform a self assessment. This will guide us to determine what our priorities are in determining the best career choice. Remember, this is for your eyes only and it is important for you to determine how you feel about these questions; this will lead you to selecting a career that is most interesting to you!

Objective 2: The learner will discuss the four steps in performing a self assessment. The four steps are: 1.Determine your values 2.Determine your interests 3.Determine your personality traits 4.Determine your skill level.

Objective 3: The learner will evaluate their values, interests, personality traits and skills. Here is an example of your self-assessment. Check those items that apply to you! Attachment A Self Assessment on Agriculture Careers for _______________________________________________________ Check the following for each of the categories that apply to you….. Values I believe that what I get paid is a top priority for me in selecting a career I want to work for a great boss I want to be my own boss I want only to work regular hours I prefer to work outside I like working with technology I do not mind work additional hours if the job calls for it. I hope to receive regular promotions in my position I want to work in the corporate world I really like working in a hand’s-on, skills based field I like working with others on a team I like working independently (on my own) I like specific directions and someone to tell me exactly what they want; then I can deliver the exact product I am willing to sacrifice money on a pay scale if I the job is very emotionally satisfying for me I like not having to work on the weekends

The End! You have just completed the first step in Agriculture Career Selection – the Self Assessment! Well done! Next is working on researching agriculture careers that are of interest to you!
