 A serving size is the amount of food recommended for consumption.  A portion size is the amount of food actually consumed.

 Since 1980, obesity rates have doubled among children & tripled among adolescents.  In the 1980’s, approximately 6% of children and teens were considered obese.  Today, more than 30% of children and adolescents are considered overweight or obese.

 Skip the appetizer. Appetizers often contain the most calories, fat and sodium than the main entree.  Learn what to look for. Look for items described as grilled, baked or steamed.  Grab the to-go box. Rather than eating the entire meal, pack half of it away before beginning your meal so that you are not tempted to overeat.  Split a meal.  Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask whether your food is prepared with butter or other fats.
