The Learning Process InputProcessingOutputFeedback

InputProcessingOutputFeedback Information is provided to the performer via the senses It comes from either the internal or external environment or both Feedback is a form or input In this phase the info received is: Put into a usable form Put into a usable form Sorted out as being relevant or not Sorted out as being relevant or not Used to make a decision about an appropriate response Used to make a decision about an appropriate response Once a response has been decided, movement is produced Once a response has been decided, movement is produced Muscles are activated by the messages sent via the nerves and action results Muscles are activated by the messages sent via the nerves and action results Feedback comes from a variety of sources Feedback comes from a variety of sources By receiving feedback a learner becomes armed with vital information that will aid performance By receiving feedback a learner becomes armed with vital information that will aid performance

Example – Passing the ball in netball Inputs – the passer might receive info from: * The CoachHow to hold the ball What type of pass is best in the situation What part of the court is should be passed on Tactics of passing * The teamWho is available to receive the pass Who wants the pass Who is calling for the ball

* The umpireBlowing of the whistle * InternallyHow much pressure is felt Level of confidence about making the pass How successful the last pass made was * SupportersHow much noise they are making Whether they are making positive comments or not Who is in the audience * OppositionHow fast and skilful they are Where they position themselves How successful they have been so far in the game What their strengths are

Processing All this information will be processed and a course of action is decided. The decision may be affected by a number of things; eg: whether the pass is being made at the pass-off or whether the pass is being made into the circle to a shooter during play. In this case, let’s say that it is a pass made by the centre at the pass-off. The most relevant info will be: - tactics decided by the coach - how successful other pass-offs have been - when the umpire blows the whistle - what the opposition do

Outputs Once these factors have been sorted the centre may decide to pass to the wing attack. This may mean that to make this pass the centre will have to turn and throw the pass little higher than usual. The appropriate muscles will receive the messages and get ready to act once another stimulus, in the form of the umpire’s whistle, is received. The pass is made.

Feedback Once the action has occurred, several factors can influence feedback: Once the action has occurred, several factors can influence feedback: 1. Yourself - 2. Your team - 3. Coaches - 4. Opposition - 5. Supporters -
