Classroom Policies In our class, we co-construct together to create a community. Our class contract was created and signed by students Our class rules are: Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Kind Be Safe Clear expectations and logical consequences

How We Begin our Day Students are greeted at the door. This is an informal check-in with each student. After morning news, we begin our day with morning meeting. Morning meeting fosters community and a sense of belonging and self esteem. Our morning meeting consists of: Greeting Sharing Activity Morning message Calendar Math

Specials P.E. with Ms. Smith is on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday Music with Mr. Welfle is on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday Chinese with Ms. Chen is on Monday and Wednesday Library lesson with Ms. Rossi is on Wednesday. Library check out is on Thursdays Art with Mrs. Edwards is on Friday

Core Subjects Math Language Arts This quarter we are focusing on: Calendar Addition Strategies Base 10 Strategies Counting Coins Telling time to the hour Using math strategies in math games. Language Arts Writing Workshop Reading Workshop Word Study Handwriting Without Tears

Core Subjects Social Studies Science This quarter students will learn about: rights/responsibilities Being a member in a community How to be a positive member in the community. Continents, Oceans, the Great Lakes, Rivers and Mountains Science Students will begin to understand and learn how to use science tools What does it mean to observe and how to record data Matter and Magnets

Homework Homework Folder Students will be given homework daily Monday-Thursday. Types of homework: Reading Daily Minimum of 20 minutes Word Work Math Special Projects

Special Projects Students will be given special projects from time to time throughout the school year. Please make sure you assist your child only as needed. Instructions and due dates will be sent home in a Tuesday folder. Please spend as little money as possible. Recycled materials are AWESOME!!!

What will my child be graded on? Participation in class Are they asking questions? Are they giving feedback? Making contributions? Interactive notebooks They have one in math, science, social studies, and word work Tests/quizzes Class work Are they completing it on time? Did they do what was required? Did they make corrections after reteaching?

Parent-Teacher Conferences Please sign up for a parent conference in November. Your child will not receive grades until we have had a conference. Please note that we can meet other times throughout the year by appointment. Monday, Wednesday, or Friday after 1:55 PM during my planning time Afterschool Tuesday through Friday Please call or email if you would like to have additional time to talk or conference.

Birthday Celebrations The last Friday of every month at 1:00 PM, we will do a mini-celebration of all children born in that month. One treat will be allowed. Cupcakes, cookies, fruit, or juice boxes Please no pizza, cake, or ice cream Children are recognized in our Tuesday community morning meeting and during our own class morning meeting on the day of/week of their birthday. Please sign up for the month you would like to bring snacks for our class
