Obtaining References The four ways of getting references into EndNote: 1.Typing them in 2.Direct Export 3.Importing using an Import Filter 4.Connection Files

Managing EndNote Libraries Changing display preferences Editing references in EndNote Duplicate detection and removal Using term lists URL field and linking

Editing References To spot errors due to incorrect filtering or typographical mistakes, use Hide/Show Preview Correcting a single record Cut and Paste Highlight, then drag and drop Correcting several records: Edit menu / Change Text References menu / Change and Move Fields

Duplicate References Removal of duplicate references is a personal choice Duplicate detection can be set at varying levels of sensitivity Edit / Preferences to change duplicate detection parameters

Using Term Lists Term lists are files that contain “controlled vocabulary” for consistent data entry and formatting. There are three types of term lists available: Authors Journals Keywords

Linking Use the Link To function to “attach” files to your EndNote records. Helps you access what you need quickly and easily! Link to a stable URL (such as a JSTOR article) Link to a file stored on your hard drive Link to an image

Creating Bibliographies Using Output Styles Types of output styles Editing output styles Creating Bibliographies in EndNote Web bibliographies Cite While You Write (CWYW) in Word

Output Styles EndNote comes with several output styles included for your bibliography. MLA, APA, Turabian, and Chicago Specific journal styles are also included Download more from EndNote Web site Use these for creating bibliographies within EndNote and using Cite While You Write

Editing Output Styles Sometimes you may need to edit your output style slightly Edit / Output Styles / Open Style Manager, select your style, select “Edit” Change abbreviations, page numbering, author order, etc. You can also create your own style.
