PAKISTAN Jennifer Shadoian S.S

Geography  Absolute location N, E  Relative location- Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian sea between India on the East and Iran and Afghanistan on the West and China on the North.  Movement- donkeys, horse- drawn carts, and sometimes motor vehicles. I chose this picture because it is a map of Pakistan.

History  Britain gives India independence, which creates East and West Pakistan.  Pakistan get a new constitution.  Pakistan and India reach an agreement that they hope they will decrease the risk of an accidental nuclear war. I chose this picture of the Britain flag because in 1947 they give India independence.

Economy  Pakistan s a developing country.  Reasons why Pakistan is a developing country:  # % of the population is between the ages of 0-14  #2- They have million oil reserves.  #3- 8% of people own cars.  # per 1000 people own TV's.  # infant mortalities. I chose this picture because Pakistanis money is not worth very much.

Politics  Pakistan has a federal republic government. A federal republic government is a federation of states with a republican form of government.  Pakistan's president- Asif Ali Zardari  Pakistan’s prime minister- Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani I chose this picture because this is Pakistan’s President.

Culture  Main Religions:  Sunni Muslim- 77%  Shi’ite Muslim- 20%  Other (Christian and Hindus)- 3%  Languages:  Urdu-52%  Punjabi-48%  Holidays:  Eid-Ur-Fitr  Shab-e-Barat  Basant Festival  Sibi Festival

Culture Cont.  Clothing:  Girl- salwar-kameez  Boy- salwar-kameez  Men- sleeveless embroidered vests wore over their shalwar-kameez. They also wear caps of various shapes and designs.  Woman- salwar-kameez and wear “dupattas” around their heads or necks. I chose this picture because these people are praying on the holiday Eid-Ur- Fitr.

Facts and Figures  Population growth  Total population-172,800,048  Life expectancy-  Female: years  Male: years  Literacy-  Female:36%  Male:64% I chose this picture because these are Pakistan kids learning how to read and write in school.

Interesting Info.  #1- Has 146 airports.  #2- Popular sports: cricket, field hockey, squash, tennis, kadabbi, and polo.  #3- Food is mostly hot and spicy. An important part of their meals is Chapat.  #4- Most people work in farming.  #5- Pakistan’s full name is Islamic Republic of Pakistan. I chose this picture because these people are playing a popular game in Pakistan called polo.
