2 G EOGRAPHY 1 Absolute/relative location: Pakistan is located at 65 degrees east and 30 degrees north. Relative location: Pakistan is in Asia. Physical place: Pakistan is about the same size as Texas and Oklahoma combined. In the North there are some of the highest mountains. Pakistan is mostly flat. The rainy season is July and August: The Indus river floods a lot.

3 G EOGRAPHY 2 Movement: When your not in the city horse-drawn carts are common ways of getting around. Roads aren’t paved. People use cars, buses, and rickshas. Cars drive on the left side of the road instead of the right. This is a map of Pakistan

4 H ISTORY 1 Arab traders and Islam: In the early eighth century Arab traders came to Pakistan and brought things to buy and sell, and at the same time brought Islam to the country. Many people were Hindu but some still converted to Islam. In the 1600’s a Muslim Kindom called the Moghal Dynasty took over Pakistan and India. This is the Moghul Dynasty

6 H ISTORY 3 East and West Pakistan 1947- Britons left Pakistan. But Muslims were afriad Hindus would take over. So they created a separate country for Muslims. From that became East and West Pakistan.

7 E CONOMY Pakistan is a developing country because….. Only 35% of its live in urban areas and the number should be much higher. Population- 37.8% of Pakistan’s population is ages 0-14. Oil-289.2 million barrels Infant mortality- 66.94 deaths Cars- only 8% of Pakistan’s population owns cars. GDP- Pakistan- $2,800 USA- $ 48,000 Above: Pakistan Rupee

8 POLITICS Government Type: federal republic Pakistan has two leaders of its country. A President and a Minister President: Asif Ali Zardari Prime Minister: Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani the prime minister runs the country. This is a Pakistan policeman

9 C ULTURE 1 Religions Main religion: Islam- about 97% Other religions: christians and Hindus- 3%

10 C ULTURE Languages Official language: Urdu- 8% English is also spoken-taught in schools These are urdu characters

11 C ULTURE 3 Costoms/Holidays Islam Holidays: Ramadan- a month when Muslims fast from sunrise to sundown Ramadan has a more important part of it called Eid-ul-fitr its celebrated at the end of the month for three days. During Eid-ul-fitr get new clothes and spend time with their family.

12 C ULTURE 4 Clothing National dress- Shawler Qameez Men ware plain colors Woman ware brighter and bolder colors. Woman also ware a dupatta which is a scarf around their heads.

Food Curry is popular Chapati a flat bread is often eaten. School There are three types of school: Persian carpet Madrassa-only religious education. Public and privite, privite is good but only the rich can afford it. Public is for the very poor and it s not very good Family Usally very big and live close by. Sports Tennis, field hokey, squash, and soccer. Polo is hokey on horses.
