UP TO £750 WORTH OF ENERGY SAVING MEASURES AND ADVICE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR BUSINESS THE ENERGY ISLES WHAT COULD YOUR BUSINESS SAVE?

THE ENERGY ISLES PROJECT This innovative project is funded by Coastal Communities with Tighean Innse Gall as the lead in a partnership with Outer Hebrides Tourism. The project is aiming to reduce the energy usage and running costs of tourism businesses in the Outer Hebrides, and help position the Outer Hebrides as an environmentally conscious destination. 300 tourism businesses will receive free support of up to £750 to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their running costs.

WHAT’S AVAILABLE? Measures available through this project: A project officer will visit your property and advise on how you can save energy and money in for your business. Each business will be eligible for up to £750 worth of measures. Measures available to help you save include the following: Draught-proofing, LED lighting, reflective radiator panels, panel heaters, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, underfloor insulation (dependent on depth), low energy appliances, kettles, tea / coffee makers / hot water dispensers, shower heads, energy efficient curtains and more…

REFERRALS The project may refer you onto other organisations to help you save further as detailed below… Referrals to Resource Efficient Scotland for zero interest loans for: external wall insulation, thermostatic radiator valves, major lighting projects, new heating systems and conversions, new triple glazed windows, room in roof insulation etc. Taigh Blath for a survey and insulation measure Referrals to Home Energy Scotland for zero interest and low interest loans for: photovoltaic electricity generation, solar water heating, wind turbines, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, biomass (wood pellet) heating systems… Referrals to Community Energy Scotland for: district heating systems, community based energy production and storage systems

WHO – CASE STUDY BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Bayview Cottage is a medium size self-catering cottage which sleeps up to four people and is located on a beach on the Isle of Benbecula Energy problems: Inefficient halogen bulbs, old poorly sealed cooker, toaster and high energy usage kettle. Measures suggested: New efficient cooker, LED light bulbs, a kettle and a toaster. Referrals suggested: There was no referrals suggested for this client Measure implemented: This property received a new energy efficient cooker and all lightbulbs were changed to LED’s Estimated savings: Savings on lighting: £ over 5 years Carbon saving on lighting: 1,710kg over 5 years Savings through upgrading the cooker: £157 over 5 years Savings of up to £690 over 5 years BAYVIEW COTTAGE
