Increasing Support for People with Sexually Transmitted Infections

My Aim My Aim is to raise awareness in how easily sexual transmitted infections can be caught. I also hope that raising awareness will get through to teenagers and encourage them not to have un safe sex, and by this happening it will hopefully reduce the amount of young people suffering from STI’s. To make my aim effective i would send a copy to every school in the state to make teenagers aware of the consequences that can happen by having unprotected sex and how it can effect ones life.

Australian Statistics - Chlamydia

Common STI Trends MalesFemalesTotal

Overall Summary..

Chlamydia 3700 People got diagnosed with Chlamydia in a year.

Gonorrhoea 485 People in one year..

Syphilis 47 People a year..

HIV Cases 91 People a year..

Do you think a STI wont happen to you ? Adolescents engage in sexual behaviours that place them at risk for occurring STI’s, including HIV. Globally, over 100 million STI’s occur each year in people under the age of 25 years and 11.8 million people aged are living with HIV, and 6000 cases per day occur in young women.

What are Sexually transmitted Infections ? A Sexually transmitted disease is an illness that has significant probability or transmission between humans either by sexual intercourse, oral sex and anal sex.

Stay Protected ! If your sexually active always have sexual intercourse with a condom and make sure that you get regular tests and check ups to make sure that you do not become a victim of STI’s.

Did you know that.. In 2010, 47.8% of high school students in Australia reported having sexual intercourse, with 7.1% reporting having had sexual intercourse for the first time before age 13.Among high school seniors in % reported having sex with four different sex partners and only 61.5% reported using a condom last time they had sexual intercourse. Don’t become a Victim of Sexually Transmitted Diseases!

Sexual health has influenced my development of personal values and sexual health by showing me how easily sexually transmitted infections can be spread. When seeing the Statistic of STI’s in young teenagers was a real eye opener and i never new how many young teenagers where sexually active. I also was shocked to find out how many year old girls where living with HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted infections. Seeing how STI’s has effected the life’s of many young teenagers it has certainly influenced me to always be carful and safe and to never fall for sayings like “ iv been tested i’m clean “. This topic has definitely had an impact on me and not only will i remind my self how dangerous unprotected sex is but i will encourage others to always remain safe and stop myself and others from becoming a victim of STI’s. Contraception Sexual health has also influenced me to always stay safe if i where to ever become sexually active. It has made me realise how effective they are and how they can keep you safe from things like unwanted pregnancy and STI’s. Contraception has also taught me that there are more protective things that you can use while being sexually active such as : The contraception pill, the hormonal intrauterine system, the ring and condoms. During this unit i have become more aware of contraception and how they work keeping you safe from STI’s and unwanted pregnancy, it has also taught me how they play a major role in ones sexually active life. Diversity of sexuality in society In this unit i have learnt that discrimination of gays and lesbians are fairly high in Australia. This unit has had the second highest effect on me as i highly feel that gays and lesbians should be treated equally. Statistics show that there are 0.46 % couples of the same sex dating or married. 1.2% of adults identify as homosexual or lesbian and 1.4% of women and 0.9% of men said they where bisexual. This unit has also taught me that just because people are with some one if the same sex they should not be treated differently or be discriminated against because of their sexuality.
