INDOOR BASIC FUNCTIONS

OPERATING MODES The system has 5 operating modes. The mode selection is done from indoor using handset. The operating modes are: Cool Heat Fan Auto Dry

THERMOSTAT CONTROL Cooling Heating T -0.5C C Fan speed remains unchanged B -2C -2C A 0C 1.5C T Heating A B Fan speed changes to lower rpm (300rpm) C

THERMOSTAT CONTROL OFF condition: ON condition: T falls in Zone A. T is above Zone C after being in Zone A. Unit resumes operation from defrost control. Operation is turned ON in any zones except A. The monitoring time has passed while T is in Zone B: Cooling/dry mode – 10 minutes. Heating – 10 seconds.

FAN MODE 6 fan setting buttons can be set using handset: Silent, L, ML, M, MH & H. Silent is at LL step. When auto fan mode is selected: Cooling: L, ML, M, MH, H Heating: LL, L, ML, M, MH, H Dry: L Powerful: H + 80rpm

AUTO MODE For heat pump only Mode switching point: Heating  Cooling Tr ≥ Ts + 2.5 Cooling  Heating Tr ≤ Ts – 2.5 During initial operation Cooling operation: Tr > Ts Heating operation: Tr < Ts Ts + 1.5 C Thermostat OFF Ts + 2.5 C Ts - 2.0 C Ts - 2.5 C Heating operation Cooling

NIGHT SET MODE Cut in when OFF timer is set. Maintain the air flow setting by user. Cooling 0.5C 1 hour 2.0C Heating OFF timer Night set circuit ON Temperature shift Unit stops at the set hours

ECONO MODE Maximum power consumption is limited to 700W. Can be activated while unit is running in Cool, Heat, Dry or Auto. Once this function is activated, the input current upper limit is applied.

POWERFUL OPERATION To set the unit to run in full capacity. Indoor fan speed and compressor frequency is increased. Fan speed and target set temperature will be adjusted as follows for a 20 minute duration: Mode Fan speed Target Ts Cool* H + 80rpm 18C Dry L + 80rpm Ts (dry) - 2.5C Heat* 30C Fan - Auto Same as * Unchanged

OUTDOOR BASIC FUNCTIONS

OVERVIEW Generally, compressor rotation is controlled within 5 zones: stop, drop, keep, up and reset subjected to a particular operating temperature/current/pressure. Zone Control Stop Compressor is stopped when a certain limit reaches the stop zone for abnormality correction. Drop Frequency will be dropped with a timer setting. Keep Frequency is maintained at lower/upper limit. Up Frequency will be increased with a timer setting. Reset Frequency lower/upper limit is canceled and returned to command rotation.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

THERMISTORS Thermistor Location Outdoor coil A Discharge pipe B Indoor coil C Outdoor air  Heat sink

MINIMUM RUN CONTROL To prevent frequent compressor ON/OFF & to allow pressure equalization The compressor will be on 3 minutes stand-by after turning OFF before it is allowed to turn ON. OD fan OFF delay to improve pressure equalization & to prevent refrigerant from entering into evaporator. Applicable for the whole range

AUTO RESTART Factory pre-set. Allow unit to automatically resume the same operating mode it was in before a power failure. Applicable for the whole range

4-WAY VALVE CONTROL OFF delay of 160 second is applied when unit is turned OFF and heating is stopped. Operating mode 4-way valve is Heat, except for defrost ON Cool Dry Defrost OFF Applicable for the whole range

DEFROST CONTROL Condition for entering defrost Compressor minimum run time – 6 minutes AND Accumulated run time > 28 minutes since the start or end of a previous defrost cycle. Similarly based on OD coil & OD air temperatures. Condition for terminating defrost Minimum run time of 60 seconds, THEN 4  OD coil  22C or Total defrost timer of 690 seconds.

DEFROST CONTROL ON OFF Compressor ON OFF 4-way valve ON OFF Fan EXV 60 second 690 second ON OFF Compressor ON OFF 4-way valve ON OFF Fan 430 pulse EXV 400 pulse Start End

OUTDOOR FAN CONTROL This control is carried out according to: During defrost. During powerful mode. During quite mode. During cooling/heating operation. When compressor stops, fan OFF delay 70 seconds is carried out for maintaining pressure difference.

PREHEATING OPERATION CONTROL Subjected to Control A and B: Control A – OD air  7C Enter End Td < 10C AND Tfin < 85C Td > 12C AND Tfin  90C Control B – OD air < 7C Enter End Td < 20C AND Tfin < 85C Td > 22C AND Tfin  90C The compressor power consumption is only 35W.

INDOOR COIL FREEZE PREVENTION Only available in cooling mode. Activation only after 2 second from the start of unit operation. 13C Reset zone Drop zone 9C 11C Up zone 7C 0C Stop zone Keep zone Return from stop

ROTATION REGULATING FUNCTIONS

OVERVIEW Upper limit rotation Command Rotation Limit Rotation Target Rotation Starting Rotation T Defrost* Lower limit rotation * Defrost control for heat pump model only

STARTING ROTATION

STARTING CONTROL To avoid excessive oil discharge from compressor or to promote oil lubrication during startup. To prevent liquid flood back to the compressor. To limit starting current. When compressor starts to rotate from OFF to ON, compressor rotation is set to run gradually to each upper limit at a specific timer setting.

STARTING CONTROL Model Cooling Heating Min. f Max. f 5LCY10ER-5WMY10KR 66 Hz 92 Hz 24 Hz 5LCY15ER-5WMY15KR 90 Hz 98 Hz 28 Hz Compressor rotation, f 90 72 58 Time (second) 180 180 10 Applicable for 5LCY Series I

COMMAND ROTATION

COMMAND ROTATION Cut in upon termination of Starting Control. Achieve capacity control by controlling the compressor rotation based on : Temperature difference between set and room temperature, T. Limit Rotation. Defrost control.

COMMAND ROTATION PI CONTROL Based on P control & I control. P control: T of each indoor is calculated at every sampling time of 20s and compressor rotation is adjusted according to the difference from the previously calculated rotation. I control: if the operating frequency is not changed more than a certain fixed time: If T is small  lower frequency. If T is large  increase frequency.

LIMIT ROTATION

LIMIT ROTATION Determine from Upper limit rotation A minimum value is determine among the upper limits rotation, i.e. protection controls. Lower limit rotation A maximum value is determine among the lower limits rotation, i.e. protection controls.

HIGH PRESSURE PROTECTION The compressor frequency is adjusted based on indoor coil temperature in heating mode & outdoot coil temperature in cooling mode. Activation only after 2 second from the start of unit operation. 65C Reset zone Drop zone 52C 55C Up zone 50C Stop zone Keep zone 45C

DISCHARGE PIPE TEMPERATURE CONTROL Stop zone 110C 105C Drop zone 101C 99C Keep zone Up zone 97C Reset zone Applicable for 5LCY Series I & 5MSY

DISCHARGE PIPE TEMPERATURE CONTROL If compressor discharge temperature >105°C, this control starts and set the current frequency as upper limit. At the same time, running frequency start to reduce by 1 step and so on, until temperature falls between 105°C)and 101°C – at the keep zone. This protection will cut in when the compressor discharge temperature > 110°C. The compressor will stop and considered trip. If the compressor discharge temperature < 97°C, the compressor frequency will be reset based on the OD ambient, set and room temperature. Applicable for 5LCY Series I & 5MSY

OVERALL CURRENT CONTROL Stop zone 14A Drop zone L2 Keep zone L3 Reset zone Mode Cooling Heating L2 Normal 6.0A 6.75A ECONO 2.75A L3 5.25A 2.0A Applicable for 5LCY Series I & 5MSY

OVERALL CURRENT CONTROL Frequency control in each zone: Drop zone Set compressor maximum limit = operation frequency – 2 Hz. After that, frequency is dropped by 2 Hz/second until it reaches Keep zone. Keep zone The current maximum frequency is remained. Reset zone Compressor frequency is reset based on T & ambient. Stop zone After monitoring for 2.5 second, the compressor will stop if current does not fall below 14A. Applicable for the whole range
