LAKOTA HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING LEADERSHIP TEAM As a BLT we are making positive changes to improve climate and academic success by fostering teamwork and giving everyone a voice.

Climate Smart Goal: By November 23rd, 2010, the Building Leadership Team will increase participation in parent/teacher conferences by 25% by doing the following: REVISE THE CURRENT PARENT/TEACHER INVITATION AND MAIL WITH GRADE CARDS TO ENCOURAGE ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION. PROVIDE BABYSITTING SERVICES FOR YOUNG SIBLINGS. REFRESHMENTS (COOKIES AND PUNCH) WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO PARENTS WHO ATTEND. THERE WILL BE CLASS INCENTIVES (SUNDAE PARTY) FOR THE GRADE THAT HAS THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF PARENTS/GUARDIANS ATTENDING PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES. Climate Smart Goal: By the end of the 2010/2011 school year the LHS staff will have made 100% two-way communication between care givers by doing the following: HAVE LHS STAFF PARTICIPATE IN A PHONE-A-THON IN WHICH CONTACTS WOULD BE DIVIDED AMONG THE STAFF AND WILL WORK TOWARDS 100% TWO-WAY CONTACT. CREATE A DATA-COLLECTION MODEL THAT CAN BE USED THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AT VARIOUS EVENTS (I.E., OPEN HOUSE, FUND RAISERS, ETC.). INVITE PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO HOLIDAY EVENTS (I.E., HOLIDAY BREAK EVENTS). HOLD A BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR LAKOTA LOCAL BETWEEN THE MONTHS OF FEBRUARY / MARCH IN WHICH COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE INVITED.

Parent/Teacher Conferences showed a 34% increase for parent attendance going from 411 to 623 student parents seen by teachers. A script has been created for a phone- a-thon and will be implemented before parent teacher conferences in the spring.

Other issues addressed SA days are being implemented every Wednesday to address student grade and absence issues. Midterm grade date has been changed to better deal with exams and out of school days. Parent survey was created and distributed during parent teacher conferences with a discussion following on ways to implement with a group. Wiki is up and running; and we are working on getting all BLT members access.

CURRENT GOALS Climate Smart Goal By Jan. 2011, a student survey will be created and distributed with data ready to analyze by the end of Feb Action steps will then be created to address student needs. Reading Smart Goal By May 2011, we will develop a literacy screener and give it to all 9 th and 10 th graders. Results will be used to more effectively schedule students in their fall classes. Science Smart Goal By May 2011, a science pre-assessment will be created to be implemented at the beginning of the school year. Data will be used to guide pacing to ensure all standards are met.

Current progress Survey is being reviewed and internet options for implementation are being explored. An end of the year survey by students of teachers is also being reviewed for implementation. Various reading screeners have been collected and are currently being reviewed.
