Presentation transcript:

You will have a weekly vocabulary quiz. These quizzes will be every WEDNESDAY. There are ten words each week. There are six chapters in each unit. You will have a Unit Test at the end of every six chapters. This test contains all the words from the previous six chapters. There are no retakes on quizzes or tests. –You need to prepare and study for the tests and quizzes the first time around. If you are absent from school on the Wednesday of the quiz or test, you are responsible for the quiz or test upon the day you return to school. If you are here on Wednesday, you will take the quiz or test regardless of previous absences.

You should study a few words a night instead of 10 words the night before. (Around 10 to 15 minutes each day) Flash cards are a wonderful way to get the definitions into your head. –Remember, not only do you need to know word to definition, but be able to go from definition to word. Study Buddies make studying vocabulary more fun. –Which one of you knows to most words? Do not wait until the last minute. –Cramming might get you through the quiz, but it only hurts you when it comes time to take the unit tests.

Grammar will be completed at your own pace. Everyone will be given an opportunity to test out of each part of speech. Each quarter will have a requirement for how many parts of speech must be mastered. You need to pass each part of speech quiz with a 90% to move on to the next one. If you do not complete the parts of speech required for each quarter, you will be ZAPPED until mastery is achieved. I can ZAP you at any time to work on grammar if I feel you are not being productive in class. Grammar is taken as a TEST grade each quarter. Once you have finished with the grammar activities, you will have free time available to do enrichment activities. Class time is given each Wednesday, after the vocabulary quizzes, to work on grammar. Nouns, Pronouns, Action/Helping/Linking Verbs -1 st Quarter Mixed Verbs, Prepositions, Adjectives -2 nd Quarter Adverbs, Conjunctions, Interjections -3 rd Quarter Final Mastery Test -4 th Quarter

Friday is usually Sustained Silent Reading. You need to come to class with an appropriate novel to read. This is a book that is read for your own personal pleasure. Being prepared with a book to read on Fridays is taken for a grade. You will lose your class points if you do not have a book to read when the bell rings. You may borrow books from me, but the book needs to be chosen BEFORE you come to class. This means, you MUST think ahead. Eventually, those students who do not come to class prepared for SSR will not only lose the points for bringing their SSR book, but will also be given a Think Time for not coming to class prepared.
