Introduction The Tundra region is a cold treeless biome. It contains very little vegetation but contains alot of animals. Some of them include the arctic fox, polar bear, caribou, oxen, migratory birds and many more. There aren't many human influences in the tundra. First nobody wants to live there there is almost nobody disturbing the animals but the major problem is Global Warming. Global Warming is starting to melt the ice in the tundra causing many animals to lose their habitat.

By:Jay 710

The Tundra Region contains about 48 species of animals. But there are a lot of animals of each type. As I told you in the introduction survival is very hard in the tundra region. For this reason each animal has a protective feature. Such as for one example birds, there are one hundred bird species in the Arctic Tundra. But the birds are only there for some of the summer then they migrate to a warmer place. But some birds stay for year around which includes the, Bunting, and Snow Owl. This is the same method for some mammals that live over there. For example Caribou's stay for the for the summer and migrate for the winter. The main habitat for most animals there is snow and ice. Background research

As I said there are about 48 animal species, and about 100 bird species and each have a special characteristic to survive in the harsh climate. The animals that live there include the Arctic Fox, Polar Bear, Caribou, and the Musk Ox. The birds that live there year around are Bunting, and Snowy Owl. Now I am going to describe how all the animals and birds survive in the Tundra Arctic Fox has very thick fur over its body including it's feet. It also has a big bushy tail to wrap around its body and has small ears. It also turns dark brown in the summer and white in the winter to camouflage into its surroundings and survive from predators. Animal Life In The Tundra

7. Snowy Owl is about 2 feet long and has a wingspan is from 4-5 or 5-5 feet long. Snowy Owls have feathers over their body and their feet. The Snowy Owls like to build their nest on high land so they can look for predators. Snowy Owls also can turn their heads 270 degrees.. Snow Buntings are very small birds. Males come to breeding grounds when the temperatures are still around -30 to protect an area with decayed or cracked rocks. They do that so the females can lay eggs in it. Females come 4-6 weeks after the males. After the females put feathers in the rock to build a nest. Females sit on eggs until the baby birds hatch until then the males bring them food to survive.. Polar Bear is a very big bear with white fur with black skin underneath the fur. This helps the Polar Bear survive in the Arctic Tundra. This is because the color black absorbs heat, and has short ears.. Caribous are mammals that migrate to warmer places for and so that they can survive. The Caribou has the fur to survive in the Arctic Tundra. It also has unique hooves that help it keep footing on ice, swim and dig.. Musk Ox has long brown hairs growing from the side and also has wool as an inner coat which is a very good adaptation to stay warm. Males and females have horns growing from the center of their head and males have a extra "boss". Animal Life Continued

What would happen if something were to change the landscape of a particular biome? I think that all plants and animals won't be able to survive. What if the temperature were to rise or lower significantly? If the temperature rises then the the ice and snow will melt and cause the animals to die because their habitat will be gone. If it were to lower it would cause the animals to die or learn to adapt a new environment. What if a developer wanted to build on the or if an animal became extinct? The animals will go away from the place where the developer is building but if an animal became extinct it would result in all animals dying out. This is because all animals depend on each other to survive because their is no vegetation they can eat. What if the rainfall greatly increases or decreases? If the rainfall greatly increases then the animals ice will increase helping them and if it decreases the ice will will sooner or later melt. Questions

What are the special features of the animals? What methods animals use to survive? Questions
