It took 10 years to get American troops out of Iraq. Because of that we went in to Iraq and started a war. It took 10 years to get American troops out of Iraq. The total costs of the wars was $1 trillion*. The War on Terror alone cost more than $800 billion. The total costs of the wars was $1 trillion*. The War on Terror alone cost more than $800 billion. * $1,296,101,900,000 as of 1/26/12

More Issues  War is a huge issue for America. Many people don’t like war.  When America is involved in one, how can we be feel happy or safe? America’s fought many wars and luckily won most of them.  War is so important to people because it’s cost this country billions of dollars and’s killed many U.S. citizens.  Every single person in the Armed Forces is someone’s Relative. If that person dies their family could be devastated.

Costs  In 2010, the Department of Defense requested $533.7 billion.  In 2011, the Department of Defense requested $548.9 billion.  In 2012, the Department of Defense requested $553 billion.  The costs of the military are steadily increasing, thus driving the U.S deeper and deeper into debt.

The US military accounts for almost 5% of our GDP (Gross Domestic Product)*. * In 2001 the military accounted for 3% of GDP.

Impact On Future Republicans: Republicans: Want to keep spending in order to keep our country safe Want to keep spending in order to keep our country safe Democrats: Want to lower spending in order to help the country’s people get back on their feet If we lower the military spending, we can use the money for Medicare and unemployment benefits. However, would we be hindering the military’s power. Do we really want to risk another 9/11? But on the other hand, do we want to risk our debt going up?

Parties Views Republican Support Defense and Military spending. Support Defense and Military spending. Believe the War has been successful. Believe the War has been successful. Don’t support foreign affairs. Don’t support foreign affairs. Democrat Against war and military spending. Want to cut Defense spending. Favor Diplomacy over military action.
