When there’s a safe gap in the passing traffic – As you approach the Give Way - CHECK the main road RIGHT and LEFT SLOW DOWN if necessary. If you need to stop stay behind the front line still around arms length from the centre to encourage following traffic to wait behind. When you see a safe gap SET OFF briskly, take the SHORTEST ROUTE straight to the centre line then turn. SET YOUR PEDAL, KEEP LOOKING both ways for safe gaps in the traffic. SIGNAL right for anyone who needs to know MOVE OUT gradually towards the centre line. About ARMS LENGTH from the centre line have BOTH HANDS on the bars. It is most important to start preparing for right turns in plenty of time- It helps you move out well before the junction so your road position tells others where you want to go. You can then concentrate on the main road as you approach the junction and be ready to Give Way or keep going as required. Find a place for SAFE STOP before the junction OR- Click to continue Find a place for a SAFE STOP after the junction If you need to GIVE WAY stop opposite the centre of the side road. About ARMS LENGTH left of the centre line get both HANDS BACK ON the bars. SLOW DOWN if necessary. HOLD that line, CHECK the side road and KEEP CHECKING the main road ahead as you approach the turn. Alternative Right turns – Main road to Side road Go to the normal position when you can see the road ahead is clear Get back on, do a SAFE START and turn left into the side road. If there is no safe gap in the passing traffic – DON’T signal or move out Approach the turn and check all around as before When there’s a safe gap in the passing traffic– MOVE OUT gradually towards the centre line. When you have a safe gap ahead get both HANDS BACK ON the bars. SET YOUR PEDAL, KEEP LOOKING ahead for a safe gap in the traffic. You may signal while you wait if it’s more than a few seconds. CHECK quickly over your right shoulder and, if it’s clear, SET OFF briskly into the centre of your lane in the side road. EITHER- Click to continue

SET YOUR PEDAL, take your time to have a good look all around and wait for the traffic to clear. When it is safe SET OFF briskly and turn to the correct position in the side road. Get off onto the footway, wait for the traffic to clear then WALK your bike across the road. If there is no safe gap in the passing traffic – DON’T signal or move out Approach the turn and check all around as before EITHER- These will take a little longer than the ridden right turn but - They will make it less challenging by breaking it down in simpler manoeuvres. You will feel less pressure to make quick decisions. Which option you choose will depend on the traffic situation and parking, the road layout and how easily you can see / be seen.
