The Rainforest BY : Gabby, Callie,Carmen, and Aidan

Toucan Toucans eat fruit and nest in trees and in burrows. Toucans have big beaks to find a mate and to scare away predators.

Toucans have four toes on each foot that are used for gripping branches. They have big, colorful beaks. Toucans make loud noises to find their mates. Toucans lay eggs in their nests.

Morpho Helena Butterflies The physical characteristics of a Helena butterfly can come in all shapes and sizes. All adult butterflies have four wings and live only one month. Each butterfly has two big front ones and two small ones.

Life cycle of a butterfly. Their eggs are pale green, with a reddish ring around the upper part of the egg. The egg is a half sphere.

JAGUARS Jaguars are big wildcats that live in the rainforest. Jaguars are nocturnal. They are meat eaters and hunt at night. They use their black and yellow fur for camouflage. They swim very well in the water which is different from most other large cats.

Jaguars live mostly alone except to mate. They have 1- 4 cubs and the cubs stay with their mother for about 2 years. They use their claws to catch prey and to climb trees where they sleep.

Pitcher Plant The Pitcher Plant is a carnivorous plant. This means it does not make it’s own food, it eats insects. It’s shaped like a pitcher with brilliant colors to help trap insects and other creatures. The pitcher plant doesn’t touch the ground so it does not get the nutrients it needs to survive, therefore it has adapted to eating insects.

The beautiful colored top leaf attracts the insects and other bugs. There are hairs that are inside the plant that the insect cannot climb against. Then the top leaf closes and the insect gets trapped in the fluid and drowns the bug.
