Vision  At Elon Park Elementary, staff, students, families and community members collaborate to provide an extraordinary learning environment where all reach their full potential, enrich their individual talents and exhibit school pride…at ALL times, in EVERYTHING they do.

Mission At Elon Park Elementary, the school community will support the commitment to the following:  Providing every student with rigorous, engaging and balanced instruction.  Basing all decisions on student strengths and needs according to all available data.  Appropriate, effective collaboration among staff, families and community members for the benefit of each student.  Facilitation of 21 st century learning through implementation of best practices.  Delivery and participation in effective professional development.  Continuous school improvement.  180 School Days resulting in a minimum of one year’s growth academically for every student.

Mobile Units Vandalism Issues:  Summer (spray painting and breaking into a bathroom)  This past weekend (made a mess of student and teacher supplies but PTO has taken care of replacing any necessary items)  What actions we’ve taken (CMS law enforcement was called and cameras footage reviewed, Security screens are now in place on all mobiles, additional cameras have been ordered, and we have communicated to CHMS and AK in case they hear anything from their students)  How you can help (Please call or with any information that you might hear)

Updates/General Information  North Carolina State Budget ( Has not passed yet and CMS is currently funding teacher assistants)  Servants with a Heart (PTO will discuss further but info and a volunteer sign up genius link will be in the PTO newsletter for the September 11 th all day event)  What did you do at school today?  CoGat Testing (2 nd grade has completed but make-ups will be the week of September 8 th )  MAP Testing ( Began on Tuesday, August 31 st and will be for all 1 st - 5 th graders. We will start Kindergarten in December)  Reading 3D Testing (Begins Tuesday, September 8 th for all Kindergarten through 3 rd Grade students)  BOG Reading (3rd Grade students will take the test on Wednesday, September 9 th. Information was sent home )  Rigor (We will continue to provide class instruction that stretches each individual’s learning. We want all students to feel challenged at their level)  What’s new?  Swings (They are popular )  Front Office (PTO provided a face life with new wall colors, new furniture arrangement, and a coffee machine for visitors)  Benchmark Assessments (There will be no MOCK EOG for 3 rd -5 th grade this year. Instead we will be using objective based benchmark assessment sthat we will build on every six weeks.  What’s new?  Principal Alerts and PTO Newsletter (Please sign up on the school website under the Principal Alerts tab to receive urgent messages. Please sign up on the PTO website to receive my weekly contribution to their newsletter)  Early Release Days  10/7, 1/20, 12:45  1:45 (we will have bag lunches on all four days. Please be mindful that if you are in a peanut free classroom that students will be eating lunch in their classrooms and all items need to be peanut free in their lunch)  Enrollment  Implications (We are currently above our projected enrollment. If we gain a teacher, we will be adding that teacher in 1 st grade based on our current numbers )

 Growth Status:  Met  Reading – 81%  Math – 88%  Science – 86%  Overall - 84% / B  Growth Status  Exceeded  Reading – 86%  Math – 92%  Science – 88%  Overall – 89% / A+ We are one of 8 schools in CMS to receive the A+ rating. We exceeded our growth projections and we are closing the achievement gap in our sub groups. Student Achievement Data A+

Questions If you have questions, please ask them now. We have a goal of 1000 “likes” for the Elon Park facebook page. facebook.com/ElonPark Search Elon Park, a CMS School on facebook 1.When are CogAt make-ups? The week of September 8 th 2.Will teachers send weekly s? If you did not receive an last week, do not stress. PTO worked overtime to get parent s out to teachers. Teachers also have a new system to learn. You should begin to see weekly s. It will be up to the teacher to establish when they will be sending them out- not every teacher sends them out on Friday. 3.Access to the new playground for Kindergarteners? The new playground is for our older students. We are in the process of building a gaga ball kit on their playground. 4.Why did some of the classes not have recess one day this week? When we receive information that it is a Code Orange day, we will have indoor recess. We will put the policy on the school website.
