Global Warming A Problem For Us All

United Nations n Security Council: 15 seats: 5 superpowers, 10 changing members, can use force. n General Assembly: All delegations of all countries, 191 seats, First Committee, Second Committee eg. Disarmement Committee, making sure countries pay. n Secretary General: does not interfere with resolutions, only advises, assists in solutions, does not have real power, gives advisory opinions.

Model United Nations n Pupils and students play at being General Assembly / committees. n Representing the position of another country, seeing the situation from both sides, a very relevant skill. n Being asked to be part of a certain delegation and trying to convince other delegations of your solution. You are willing to solve a problem, and you have some points to compromise on, but you have to take into consideration that in our country...

Global Warming Definition: n Decrease of Ozone n Melting of Ice n Rising of Sea Level n Decrease of Rainfall in some places heavy rainfall in others n Inequitable distribution of water n Rising of Temperature n Greenhouse Effect

Human Beings n Awareness: info and knowledge n Negligence: know but not care n Incapability to solve problems of some countries n 98% of CO2 omissions is decided for us by the governments n 2% we control ourselves

A Problem Of Us All Is the solution to Global Warming up to the government or can we solve it on a personal level? n Positive actions you take every day n governments regulating factories n green political parties

United Nations How do we work together and reach one common goal? Can the world agree to one solution? Treaty of Kyoto: have all countries signed the Treaty?

What does Global Warming mean to you? n Give the definition of Global Warming and learn this definition by heart. n Assignment: draw a personal list of personal daily actions and ask 2 people you know to add more ideas to your list.

Extra Task n Divide the class into groups n Every group represents a country in the world. Make sure all continents are included. n Write a paragraph on a solution to Global Warming. All groups appoint one speaker. Speakers try and convince the other countries of their solution. n All groups start with: We, country x, are willing to solve the problem by doing x, but you have to take into consideration that in our country …..
